Hi guys, we thought this might be helpful information for our VanRavFam!! We understand that harm reduction can be a hard topic to approach, but destigmatization and awareness is key to preventing unnecessary lives lost.
Harm reduction is an important part of the rave scene and should always be incorporated into your events, and weekend plans.
Harm Reduction Tip of the Day… brought to you by yours truly .reduction.saves.lives 🖤💉
If you are at these scene of an overdose, after you have checked the surrounds for hazards, and you have determined the person is unresponsive, the next step is to call 911 🚑
When calling 911 it’s important not to tell the operator you think the person is experiencing an overdose. JUST TELL THEM THE PERSON IS UNCONSCIOUS & THEY’RE UNRESPONSIVE!
We do this because of stigma… it’s called the “Frequent Flyer Program”. It’s sick that this is even a thing, but it is. If operators know the person who is overdosing because they overdose frequently, then response times from emergency services will be slower. We hear about it in this work all the time. The way you’re going to get paramedics to the scene promptly is don’t say s**t about the overdose and just say the person is in conscious & unresponsive. The emergency services can determine what’s going on when they get there, and until then you can respond to their overdose, and hope emergency services arrive in a timely manner.
