This Sunday, Aug 25, from 7pm – 9pm, is the last of the Summer Square Dance series hosted by the Vancouver & District Caller/Teachers Association at Kennedy Hall in Surrey, BC.

I’ll be calling this dance and Alison Hampton will be cueing rounds.

The square dancing program will be suitable for anyone who has completed about 12 lessons and learned the 50 movements of the SSD program. We may also have some tips for the Mainstream (67 moves) and Plus (95 moves) square dance programs if there is sufficient interest.

The dance will be at Kennedy Hall, 8870 - 120 St. (Scott Rd), BC, Canada

The fee is $10 per person payable at the door

I really enjoyed dancing and calling at the 23rd Canadian National Square & Round Dance Festival in Calgary, Alberta, July 17-20 and got a few chances to call with Steve Edlund Square Dancing & Gary Winter Square Dance Caller. We are all pleased to be Recording Artists & Staff Callers for Riverboat Records so it was a special treat that Bob Elling, Riverboat Owner/Producer, also attended the festival. We enjoyed our time visiting and calling together. Thank you to the over 16 squares of dancers from all over Alberta, BC, and Idaho who traveled to Radium, BC, to spend this weekend with us and enjoy the beauty of the town.

It was great fun to call with Gary Winter for the first time in Radium, BC, this weekend. We found we enjoy performing similar music and could harmonize well together. Thanks to Gary and his wife Trish for all the hospitality this weekend.

I also enjoyed meeting many dancers from Alberta including Leduc Square Dance. I look forward to seeing you again at the Canadian National Square Dance Convention in Calgary this July.

This is a destination dance so in addition to the dancing on Friday night and Saturday morning and evening, there was free time to enjoy the town. I relaxed in the hot springs and played a couple of rounds of golf with some of the dancers while admiring the beautiful surrounding mountains.

After the dances there were many opportunities to get to know folks at parties at the motels near the dance hall or around the campfire at the RV park.

Gord Ruedig is calling in this video from a recent dance. He is a great caller, singer & entertainer and I'm looking forward to calling with him on Aug 15-17, 2024, in Powell River, BC, during their Blackberry Festival. This is a West Coast / Mainstream dancing weekend that will include dancing in the Star Dusters dance hall and at the beach pavilion during the festival fireworks show. It's a beautiful drive & ferry ride to Powell River and they are great hosts. Thank you to everyone who attended our last First Friday No-Experience-Needed Modern Square Dance Party on May 3. We had a great time with nearly 100 people. Unfortunately, there will be no dance in June as I am calling out of town that weekend.

I invite you to the Chilliwack Rhythm Reelers Square and Round Dance Club dance on Saturday, June 1, 2024, with Krista Baird & me.

This day of dance at the Atchelitz Hall (6542 Lickman Rd, Chilliwack, BC V2R 4A9) offers rounds and PLUS dancing in the afternoon from 2pm - 4:30pm, and SSD (50 moves including much of the Mainstream program) dancing from 7-9pm with Krista and me.

Between the dances, there is a dinner break with social time and fun games at the hall including a game of Baseball Co****le. Following the evening dance, plan to stick around and join in a campfire sing-along, classic rock style.

We are looking forward to a fun-filled "Day in the Valley" so I hope you will join us.

Please let me know if you would like any further info including the possibility of RV camping at the hall.

Hop on Over to Moxee, WA, “The Hop Capital of the World”, just 8 miles southeast of the City of Yakima and 8 miles east of Union Gap, and join us May 24 - 27, 2024, for the 35th Annual Yakima Memorial Day PLUS Square Dance Weekend.

The weekend includes fun and interesting Plus square dancing with caller, Brent Mawdsley, from Friday evening through Sunday evening, with “FUN”shops on Saturday morning and Sunday Afternoon. And there’s plenty of beautiful round dancing from Phase 2 through 6 with Ron & Georgine Woolcock, including pre-rounds, and workshops / teaches on Saturday afternoon and Sunday early afternoon, as well as a round dance review Monday morning. See the schedule for details.

If you would like more round dancing with the Woolcock’s join them Thursday evening, May 23, and Friday morning & afternoon, May 24, for the Trail-In Round dancing, rhythm clinic & special dance teach.

All dances will be on the beautiful wood floor of the Yakima Square & Round Dance Center, 207 E. Charron Road, Moxee, WA (shown in the picture).

There’s also time for visiting and eating together in the social area downstairs where you’ll be treated to potluck meals, ice cream after the dance, and a delicious pancake breakfast on Monday.

There are lots of accommodation options near the hall including RV camping at the hall (registration required) or at Yakima Sportsman State Park as well as several hotels.
