The blooms are coming in hot! 🔥🔥🔥

We are so excited to be able to share pictures of varieties we’ve been working hard to procure this season. They certainly haven’t disappointed us!

We don’t usually grow many other forms like anemone and collarettes, but when we do- it’s like wow!

If you haven’t chased down Rhubarb & Custard collarette, it’s definitely one to add on the wishlist.

BQ Morris is an absolutely adorable anemone.

And of course, one of our personal favorites for form, petal counts and overall perfection is Coorabell Astrid! If you’ve viewed our previous stories, you’ll know that her petals literally glitter in the sun ✨✨✨ It doesn’t get much better than that!

So we heard waterlilies are all the rage this year! Here’s another one for the wishlists 😉

We’re actually doing a fall sale and downsizing majority of our stock to make room, what do you all think? Does this one get to stay?

Last picture in the field with a lovely green lacewing beneficial friend. 🐞 we strive to stay pollinator friendly and employ a few rounds of beneficial insects during the growing season. So far it has worked well!

Pink dahlias have my heart and it’s not hard to see why!!

Harvested these beauties before our rainstorm, and they’re absolutely breathtaking (even with a little green center in some).

Araluen Leatrice is one of our most coveted and highly anticipated varieties. She certainly did not disappoint! She’s deliciously pink, packed with petals showing off her australian roots with her perfect form. We can’t wait to see more of her relatives blooming! Are you as excited to see them as we are?

Waterlily form dahlias are all the rage this year, and it’s totally justified! Comparable to peonies and real water lilies 🪷🪷🪷

We have a moderate collection of waterlilies here at Summer’s Dream Garden, but arguable some of the best 😉

It’s been a whirlwind season and we’re so thankful that the blooms are starting to really take off! It’s that time of year where the roses put on a show.
The saying is definitely true, first year sleep, second year creep and third year LEAP!

It’s been crazy busy, we really hope to clear a photography space with good lighting to document all these beauties. Roses scatter so much faster in comparison, so we’re really hoping they don’t fade or get water damage before we had a chance to capture more of their beauty indoors.

WOW, it’s been a whirlwind selling season, and the end is in sight!We knows lots of our friends have already started planting or even getting outdoor blooms yet, but we haven’t even started 🤣 Flower farming is not for the faint of heart, kudos to all our fellow growers of all types, we’re so close to enjoying beautiful blooms all summer soon.

We amassed such a collection, it’s hard to say which ones we’re most excited for.

Photographed is an indoor bloom of Hapet Old Charm, if you have been lucky enough to score her- she is worth the hype! Perfection in a flower. Need we say more? 🪷

Happy Monday everyone!

Waterlily form dahlias are becoming a fast favorite. We’re looking at building a waterlily dream team this season, any guesses on what might be on this list? 🤭🤭 photographed is just a couple of our waterlily varieties, having been grown indoors, to bloom now at the end of March. We even brought them outside to play with other seasonal blooms that are almost never seen together! 🌸

We’re an urban grower with limited space, but dahlia maths, we’re pushing over 200 varieties this year!

We can’t wait to share all the beauty with everyone. It’s going to be a wonderful year! 🌸🌸🌸

The dahlia world has been feeling from the past couple days. Emotions running high, and we’re all missing the joy these beautiful blooms gives us. Spring couldn’t get here faster.

We are grateful for all of the wonderful relationships we’ve built in this community. Here’s some beauties that bloomed indoors a while ago to brighten your day! Their colors are a bit faded, but still so extremely dreamy.

Yes!! Here she is in all her glory!! KA’s Coral Sea 🪸 🌊. One of the most highly anticipated dahlias of the year, she has graced us with her first bloom in February, just in time for Chinese New Years, Year of the Dragon 🧧 The phone does not quite capture her truly special colors, she ranges from peachy to dusty orange and of course her name sake mauve coral, as well as gold tipped petals ✨ She has long sturdy stems, no wobbly head, and perfect 45 degree facing placement. Kristine Albrecht of Santa Cruz Dahlias knocked it out of the ball park with this one!

We may have took her off the plant a little early (this beauty decided to face the wall 🙈 we got tired of selfies that may break the stems), making her look less full than some other photos, but not to fear she is in water and we will update how she looks in a few days- we were just soooo excited and wanted to share with everyone as soon as possible.

We have been working nonstop to take tons and tons of cuttings, as of February we have almost 100 cuttings potted up, and more still rooting! She’s an absolute workhorse, roots fast, super healthy and as you can see, to die for blooms.

All the hype for her is justified in our opinion!

Phew, it’s been a busy couple weeks! If you have been following our stories, you can see that we’ve added more racks to our set up- not shockingly it’s almost filled up again!

We’re preparing for the cold snap that is supposed to hit in a couple of days, tubers put into the safety of the grow tent. Pot tubers covered with heavy blankets. Roses sheltered in our greenhouse.

I know lots of you have mentioned interest in our grow tent set up! Please bear with us for the following wall of text. If I have missed anything, feel free to drop the questions in the comments so I can follow up :)

We have no affiliation with any of the products listed below, simply listing what is currently working well for us. Scroll to see pictures of our beautiful dahlias thriving in the middle of winter!

First up: Growtent set up in uninsulated separated garage.
Growtent info: AC Infinity 5ftby10ft, 6inch inline exhaust fan, and one oscillating swivel fan.

We have currently 3 Costco heavy duty racks. Varying levels to accommodate different height of plants.

Lighting: T8 monios 4ft off amazon, three bars per level. All lights connected to kasa smart power bar, which operates on/off with the schedule you set. Currently the plants get about 15 hours of light.

General maintenance: Daily to every other day checks for mildew, we spray with baking soda+dish soap spray and then mammoth canncontrol. It’s been great at managing the Powdery mildew.

Only a few more days until the holidays, and we simply can’t wait!
cuttings propagation has been going swimmingly, projecting some tubers to offer for spring sales as well!

We’re adding almost 50 new cultivars, some might be available for spring order, as long as we are able to encourage them to bloom for confirmation in the next couple months, keep your fingers crossed!

Happy Monday! Missing the garden after we have a small snow storm over the weekend❄️

When everything is in full bloom, everything looks so magical. Next season I’m going to need proper support set up, my bamboo trellis and cage clearly not strong enough to keep giants like KA bella luna and KA rosie jo from toppling over 🫠

Will do it properly this season promise! Especially with all the super unicorns we’ll be growing this year 🤭

Happy Sunday!

Some attention to details- Dahlias have such a shimmering glow to their petals, it can be so difficult to capture on camera. But when you do it successfully, the petal formation and shades can simply mesmerizing you! I can spend literally spend hours staring in awe at these magnificently intricate flowers 🌸

Pictured is a close up of KA’s Bella Luna, one of our top performers. Vigorous plant, nonstop blooms, massive tree trunk like stems end of season, and numerous big potato like tubers.

She’s mostly white in high heat but with cooler temps she sports these beautiful shades of lavender. 💜
