Our workshop was attended by people of different background and cultures.
This video has inspired me to wish for another workshop featuring cultural appreciation and a heartfelt call for peace and unity. 🙏
Our musician, Gab was dancing here with majority Iranian Canadian seniors. He used to work in the Middle East before coming to Canada as a foreign student, and so quite happy to enjoy this beat and sound once again. Heartwarming!

After more than 1.5 hours of emceeing — all talks memorized, I still had enough energy to hit the dance floor every time the music played, like nobody's watching💃. If our seniors who are 93 and 90 years old can, why can't we? 😀

As project leader, I believe in leading with joy. We definitely had fun as shown here. Kudos and thanks to our volunteer line dance teachers who religiously share their time and skills with the community so everyone can learn to dance and socialize.

I just wrapped up my Timeless Tales workshop and it was a hit!
Delivered with flying colors -- literally, thanks to the colorful scarves we used for the chair exercise, lols.
I’d say it was one of the best I’ve done so far. The energy in the room was great, and the warm kudos and appreciation from participants made it even more rewarding.

We featured some truly high-calibre storytellers and guest speakers — from a multi-awarded Toastmasters champion, to a professional writer who contributed to the 2010 Vancouver Olympics, and a poet who received a Lifetime Achievement Award from World Poetry to stimulating stories of resilience and dreams. Every one of the five speeches was inspiring, uplifting, and left us all wanting more.

The fun didn’t stop there — we had teamwork mingle bingo, skits, acting, demo, scarf art, music, food and of course, dancing! We truly connected, created, and shared so many laughs.

I can’t wait to run another one before the year ends.

Lots to prepare, but I’m thrilled — and grateful for the help and support from my amazing friends and fellow seniors.

May, my birthday month, brought lovely surprises—from family and friends’ celebrations to an unexpected call from the Neighbourhood Small Grants (NSG) program.
Last Thursday, I was invited to join the NSG Committee to help review applications, and I gladly accepted—gaining valuable experience and a few perks along the way.

We had our orientation today, and application reviews will run from Tuesday to Sunday, followed by a supervisor review before cheques are issued next Tuesday.
Project Leaders will have their orientation on May 31, once grants are approved and cheques distributed.
I now wear two hats: NSG Committee Member and Project Leader.

On top of that, I’m also part of the NSG Network's Story Gathering Team, collecting community stories in various roles from late May through June.

And not to forget—I’ll also be preparing and delivering my NSG workshop in June.

With all that going on, I think line dancing might be my only break, lols.

My dear friends gathered together two days after my birthday to celebrate it - kudos to all of you! 💞

We had lots of fun using creativity - from decorating the place including a mochi cake, carving fruits, tying scarf, drawing game, to singing & dancing, of course 😊.
Here are the samples of said creativity.

Another day, another volunteer adventure!
Since retiring, my calendar is somehow more packed than when I was working — who knew that was possible?
But honestly, I love it. It keeps me moving, keeps me laughing, and gives my aging brain a fun little workout.
Who says retirement is about slowing down?

As the NSG Dream Tent makes its rounds, so do I!

Last night’s event at the Collingwood House Annex was a great experience, and there’s more to come. I even took the opportunity to volunteer to talk about my previous project—practicing impromptu public speaking in a different setting, heheh.

It turned out to be a rewarding experience! I was approached by people interested in potential collaborations, including opportunities to conduct workshops with other organizations. Plus, I received an invitation for the seniors in my community to showcase their talents in storytelling, dance, and music—once they’re ready.

Wow, it’s overwhelming! I’m not sure if I can handle it all—but I’ll take it one step at a time.

First things first: I’ve applied for the NS grant to run a storytelling workshop this Spring. It’s an exciting step forward for our seniors, and I’m looking forward to what’s ahead!

Luckily, since I’ll be around this time of year, I’ll finally have the chance to attend the Neighborhood Small Grants celebration for the first time.

I’m especially excited because I’ve been invited to speak and showcase my previous NSG projects during the presentation session.

Lately, it feels like new opportunities, learning experiences, and personal fulfillment are naturally unfolding before me, and I couldn’t be more grateful!

I’m so glad I decided to be the inspirational speaker at a recent Newcomers event showcasing Filipino foods. It turned out to be a rewarding experience, and I learned a lot about myself, my writing, and my audience:

About Myself:
The 10-minute speech I had memorized was delivered without needing to glance at my cue cards even once. Interestingly, during practice, I would often miss a line or mix up the sequence of paragraphs. But during the actual speech, I didn’t falter, even with the applause interruptions from the audience. It made me realize that my memory is still sharp, which feels like such an accomplishment at my age.

About My Writing:
I wrote the speech based on my personal experience, which made it authentic and heartfelt. However, I revised it several times to ensure it included the most meaningful quotes and takeaways, not just for the newcomers but for the old-timers in the audience as well. All the effort paid off—I was proud of the final version and how it resonated with the participants.

About the Audience:
One motivational speaker I admire once said, “It’s not what you said, but how you made them feel that matters.” That really came to life for me. There were moments in my speech that always touch my heart when I practice, and during the event, I had to pause longer than usual at those parts to avoid becoming too emotional. I think the audience picked up on that because those moments received unexpected applause. Those pauses were helpful in connecting with them on a deeper level!

Now, I fully understand what my favorite speaker meant about leaving an emotional impact. This experience has been truly inspiring for me!
I think I'm ready for more opportunities to speak and make a difference! 😊.

A few years ago, I shared this on Facebook:
“I would like to be a motivational speaker (when I grow up 😁), reaching out one speech at a time 💕. I believe that if our desires are good and aligned with our life’s purpose, the people and resources we need will come to our aid!”

They say, "Be careful what you wish for," and how true that is, heheh.
I recently volunteered for an event showcasing Filipino cuisine for newcomers to Canada.
The event is sponsored by MPNH, Welcome BC and Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada.

I also offered to share an inspirational speech about my experience as a newcomer in Edmonton, Alberta. That journey happened over 35 years ago, yet it remains as vivid in my mind as if it were just yesterday.
I'm really excited to deliver my first motivational speech—wish me luck!

Said speech (below is the pic that represents it) has been posted on my other page:
