Iโm so glad I decided to be the inspirational speaker at a recent Newcomers event showcasing Filipino foods. It turned out to be a rewarding experience, and I learned a lot about myself, my writing, and my audience:
About Myself:
The 10-minute speech I had memorized was delivered without needing to glance at my cue cards even once. Interestingly, during practice, I would often miss a line or mix up the sequence of paragraphs. But during the actual speech, I didnโt falter, even with the applause interruptions from the audience. It made me realize that my memory is still sharp, which feels like such an accomplishment at my age.
About My Writing:
I wrote the speech based on my personal experience, which made it authentic and heartfelt. However, I revised it several times to ensure it included the most meaningful quotes and takeaways, not just for the newcomers but for the old-timers in the audience as well. All the effort paid offโI was proud of the final version and how it resonated with the participants.
About the Audience:
One motivational speaker I admire once said, โItโs not what you said, but how you made them feel that matters.โ That really came to life for me. There were moments in my speech that always touch my heart when I practice, and during the event, I had to pause longer than usual at those parts to avoid becoming too emotional. I think the audience picked up on that because those moments received unexpected applause. Those pauses were helpful in connecting with them on a deeper level!
Now, I fully understand what my favorite speaker meant about leaving an emotional impact. This experience has been truly inspiring for me!
I think I'm ready for more opportunities to speak and make a difference! ๐.
