Tickets are still available to see Pulitzer Prize-winning artist Raven Chacon for FREE this Thursday at the Chan Centre!

Join us for a special live performance of Chacon’s work Horse Notations alongside a conversation with the Chan Centre's curator-in-residence Jarrett Martineau.

Recipient of the MacArthur “genius” Fellowship, Chacon is known for his use of nontraditional instruments and notation. Often incorporating sounds from rifles, foghorns, and axes alongside orchestral instruments, his accompanying graphic scores are both visual commentaries and a way to make his music accessible to performers outside the confines of the western notated music.

When you first step into the Chan Centre, you’re greeted by a painting called Silent Woods by artist Gordon Smith. It’s abstract, but meant to capture the essence of a winter forest - similar to the one surrounding the Chan Centre! Comment down below how you interpret the painting 🎨

Did you know that the Chan Shun Concert Hall is designed to make you feel like you’re inside an instrument? 🎻 The interior has a violin-like shape, and the elliptical geometry of the concert hall ceiling includes fret- and string-like cables that support the lighting catwalk. Check out the hall for yourself at an upcoming show!
