Flower Facts Friday Hypericum: These cheerful berries come in an array of colours including white, green, red and pink. With medium longevity, they make a lovely textural addition to any floral arrangement. They can also be referred to as St.John’s Wort. We prefer Hypericum.

Baby’s Breath: Of the genus Gypsophila, this very common floral inclusion is one of our least favorite flowers. While dainty, this fragile flower is typically used to accent other flowers or used as floral accessories. Like its name suggests, the fragrance from these flowers can be less-than-pleasant at times. It can be an ‘aggressive ornamental’ and could be considered invasive in certain areas. The most common colour for this medium-longevity flower is white.

Flower Facts Friday Wax Flower: Commonly considered a “filler flower” Chamelaucium comes predominantly from Australia. The small, delicate flowers have a slight pleasant scent and colours most commonly include white, purple and pink. With a medium-long longevity you’ll find this more used in our store than baby’s breath. .

Flower Facts Friday Delphinium: Commonly used interchangeably with Larkspur, this tall flower is one of the few flowers that naturally come in blue. With a shorter lifespan and little to no fragrance, these delicate flowers add a garden-like quality to floral arrangements.

Flower Facts Friday Stock Flower: From the genus Matthiola (which we think sounds prettier), these highly scented flowers have multiple blooms per stem. Medium to short longevity, they commonly come in pastel to dark purple colours.

Flower Facts Friday Snapdragons: These flowers can “talk” if squeezed, their blooms opening creating a “mouth”. From the Antirrhinum genus (not to be confused with Anthurium) these flowers have medium longevity and mild scent with many blooms per stem.

Flower Facts Friday Protea: The most common proteas to see in our store are Pink Ice, Pink Mink and Pincushion. King, Queen and Blushing Bride are available for special order or seasonally. Leucadendron also falls under the family Proteaceae. These come to us from South Africa and despite the long journey they have quite a long vase life. Most have little to no fragrance and are a stunning exotic addition to any arrangement.

Flower Facts Friday Lisianthus: Sometimes referred to as a Poor Man’s Rose flower, we think they are for everyone. These flowers have a medium lifespan and come in shades of pink, purple, and white. They have little to no scent and come with a few blooms per stem.

Flower Facts Friday Oriental Lily: Grown for their fragrance, these lilies grow into stunning blooms that are highly scented. With medium longevity, they are not recommended to have around cats. Colours typically include white and pink (with some variation).

Hybrid Lily: These lilies are grown for longevity. Typically our lilies are shipped as buds or tight flowers to open in your home. Our hybrid lilies colours include orange, white, pink and yellow (with some seasonal variation). Unlike Oriental lilies, these have little to no scent. Both Hybrid and Oriental lilies are not recommended to have around cats.

Thankfully we include specific care cards in each floral arrangement containing hydrangea. These flowers have little to no scent and come in a few colours.

Flower Fact Friday Gerbera Daisy: Sometimes called African Daisy, this cut flower is long lasting with little to no fragrance. They typically come in two sizes, mini and full-sized and a variety of colors. Yellow Gerbera daisies remind us of sunflowers.
