We’re Hiring!
Looking for a fun, flexible job in events? Join our team as a Casual On-site Event Assistant and help us bring weddings, corporate events, and other celebrations to life with set-up, coordination, and takedown.

We’re a team built on kindness and committed to ending burnout culture in events. Our typical shifts are 8 hours (with a 12-hour max for those who prefer extended days), and we pay overtime - and double overtime! ;)

Pay: $22–$25/hour for assistants (based on experience and on-site leadership requirements) Shifts: Flexible schedules - you can say yes or no to shifts! Most are Friday/Saturday/Sunday in the summer, with some midweek opportunities. Perks: A chance to get creative, on-site meals during dinner shifts, opportunities for advancement, and the chance to travel throughout BC.

Requirements: Must be legally allowed to work in Canada, have a drivers license with access to a reliable vehicle and a cell phone!

Holy heck it’s been a hot minute.

We’ve been so focused on executing this year’s events, that we haven’t even had a second to post about them! But with a fun-filled holiday season now behind us, we’ve finally got the space and we can’t to share what we’ve been up to 🖤

We wanted to start by acknowledging something you won’t see in all the professional photos though - and that’s the incredible amount of hard work that goes in behind the scenes to make functions happen. See below for Sara’s thank you to the team that made it all possible!

This job is not a glamorous one and let’s be honest, working for a small business is hard. Katie, Ashley, Berni, Brooke, Gen, Taryn, Rae - I am SO thankful for everything you’ve done for Function this year, and more importantly, your patience with me (especially anyone who had to stick around for takedown with me - iykyk). Sustainability: for us, it’s about thoughtful choices, meeting people where they are (and with kindness), and proving that sustainability and luxury can go hand-in-hand. Here’s how we’ve walked the walked: • We were the first planning company to champion @menschcatering ’s first-of-its-kind sustainability menu, integrating it into both weddings and corporate events and using speeches and menus to educate guests on the impact of elevated, sustainable meals. •This year, we worked with @bespokeblossoms to design our highest budget floral file to date with zero floral foam and no single-use mechanics. Because sustainability isn’t just for small and simple moments - it’s for big, bold ones too. (Kudos to Annise and her team for leading and absolutely crushing this.) •We planned and executed multiple events where the only waste or single-use items were the fully burnt candles on the tables. •Our approach to planning is intentional. We share our knowledge and help clients figure out their true priorities, ensuring every element serves a purpose. It’s not just about having less, and it’s certainly not about having things just to have them. •The overwhelming majority of the items featured in our designs are rentals. We prioritize reusable elements like draping and lighting over single-use decor. •We believe small changes add up and that collaboration is key. That’s why we work with vendors to be just 1% more sustainable, recognizing that meaningful progress takes time and that some vendors face greater challenges in adopting sustainable practices. But we’re not perfect, and we know where we can do better.
