We are excited to announce a show that has been long in the making! Local sweethearts will join us in welcoming back Vancouver's Post-Modern Connection ( ) and Kamloops' Mother Sun ( ) for an night of eclectic indie rock fusion!

🎸In the ever-expanding indie music landscape, Post-Modern Connection has carved a unique space for themselves with their particular blend of indie rock meets jazz rejects, meets surf rock, held together by soulful, crooning vocals and infectious instrumentals.

🕺🏾Vancouver Island’s Neighbourly weds the freedom of psychedelia with layers of pop and funk influences.
This year they have released two EPs, each embracing distinct vibes as a deliberate challenge to explore and add post-punk & Italian disco tracks into their ever expanding repertoire of island groovers.

🎷Mother Sun create melodic and adventurous rock n roll from the sprawling interior desert of Kamloops BC Canada. The four piece has shaped their sound while burrowing in realms of dream pop, psychedelia, jazz, surf, folk, garage rock and more, as explored in their upcoming 2024 record ‘Meadow 6’.

Good Party & Hot Local Singles Presents: Eventide, July 31st, 2024!

Put on your dancing doc martins, .band (Van.) and .ends (Sea.) are taking the stage with locals and .o.n.g.witch

This free, all ages event is produced as part of the Eventide Music Series, returning for its 11th installment.

This show will take place at "Centennial Square" on the stolen, unceded Coast Salish territories of the lək̓ʷəŋən speaking people, now known as the Esquimalt and Songhees nations.

"Death Make Stardust is a DIY music project that began in 2020, fronted and centred by Sam Kantor and rooted in unceded Lekwungen territory (colonially named "Victoria, British Columbia").
Death Make Stardust is wide, direct music, swirling the personal with the grand, the spiritual and the radical. Echoing this duality, Death Make Stardust exists both in recorded form as distilled, confessional, fuzzy bedroom sounds, and in live form as a grandiose patchwork display, woven together by many friends' hands, guided by the skeleton of these recordings.
With Death Make Stardust, Sam Kantor hopes to create a space where you can feel bad, until maybe you don't. For a while, at least."

✨ CFUV’s 2024 Funding Drive is here! Our kickoff show at Upstairs Cabaret was an absolute hit last night, and we're so so so thankful for the support and love from the community ✨

CFUV means so much to me, and has become a big part of my life over the past 2 years. CFUV gave me the confidence to do what I do & supported me in taking up space in the music community, which directly influenced & led to my involvement in organizing live events too!

No matter how much I say it, it will always hold true that CFUV does more for the community than they'll ever know. During this time especially, we ask for you to support CFUV through monetary contributions to help the station's operations.

For your donations & contributions, you can get some of our sweet, sweet CFUV merch, and bid on items in our auction!

Funding Drive is running from March 15 - 22 and features a plethora of special programming, community events, live sessions, and concerts. This year’s funding drive is an extra special one. Our goal is to raise $40,000 to commemorate 40 years of offbeat radio.

Uniquely otherworldly and humming with fuzzy nostalgia, Niloo blends shoegaze, dreampop, folk, and pre-revolution Iranian pop into a fabric of sound.

🎸HopeCity Waters (Indie Folk Soul)
HopeCity Waters is your 1970’s poet dad on the porch with a coffee and a cigarette’s favourite band. They hold the folk-soul sound you’d want to listen to before, during, and/or after a good cry.

🦈Shark Bite Spite (Synth Folk | Alternative)
Shark Bite Spite is Tamsen, Bennett, Stella, Rylan, and their shark-shaped capo. Starting in 2021 with A Score for Daydreams, it has been an ongoing indie-rock-centric project, iterating over different instrumentations through the years. They released their self titled album in September last year.

We acknowledge and respect the W̱SÁNEĆ and lək̓ʷəŋən peoples on whose traditional territory we live on as uninvited guests. The Songhees, Esquimalt and W̱SÁNEĆ peoples, whose historical relationships with the land continue to this day, have stewarded this land since time immemorial. We owe this land, and these peoples, our respect, gratitude & dedication to learning & decolonizing ourselves & the spaces we exist in.

Sofia Miller's latest release, Prologue, has left an enchanting impression. Topping CFUV's charts last week at #1, this album has been my latest obsession in the folk/alt genres.

"Sofia Miller is an independent solo artist, producer based in Victoria, British Columbia. She has made her most recent mark with her first full-length studio album, "Prologue". Recorded in Montreal with producer Guillaume Guilbault, this record reflects Sofia's personal journey of moving from the East to the West of Canada, addressing the growing pains and the profound realizations that come with one's early 20s. From her creative guitar licks to her soft airy falsetto, 'Prologue' is full of Sofia's untaught, unique sonics but this time backed with an all-star band and a hifi sound. This release is her fullest realization as an artist thus far as she departs from her makeshift bedroom sound to a more vivid and rich aural world."

PMRS Fundraising Accountability Post:

Setting up at 3 different live music shows, we collected funds for the P@lest!nian Medical Relief Society (PMRS).

Photo #3 - Breakdown of funds collected at the shows.
$443.60 collected by ZB via cash & e-transfer. ZB worked with another person, Q, to collect funds for PMRS and contributed those funds with Q's pooled funds (shown in Pictures 5 & 6). ZB left part way through the Oct 21st show, and we collected another $500ish (I didn't write down the exact #, so I forgot lol, but it was no more than $530, so I rounded up to $556.40 to make sure I wasn't accidentally keeping any).

For the record, I hate doing these kinds of posts. Raising funds for a humanitarian crisis should never be done for the clout, 'goodwill', or perception of others. Unfortunately, some misguided souls only do fundraising for the optics. I wouldn't even want to post about this, but it is important that the community knows where this money is going, and that it wasn't misappropriated.

Poncho hails from Ghana and has settled as a newcomer to Vancouver Island in the past year. Despite his limited time in the scene, Poncho has created and performed with a fervor that shows his spirit, passion and dedication to his craft.

"Been an artist from Africa my sound might be categorized under afrobeat genre but has the feel of reggae and highlife in it. I’m very energetic performer since I like to make people feel what I feel with music which is freedom." - Poncho

Poncho's debut EP, Back Boy In Front, released this past August 25th, featuring six tracks with bouncy and playful energy that is characteristic of Poncho's style. Coming up on the CFUV 101.9's Basement Closet Sessions, we have Charis Tazumi () coming in! Charis will join us on the air from 3:00 - 4:00 PM 💜

Charis Tazumi is a singer-songwriter based out of Victoria B.C, who shares heartfelt thoughts and feelings through song. Her unique sound is highlighted by wistful and compelling lyricism, and she is inspired by a blend of folk, indie, alternative, and RnB music. Her latest single “Day Girl Meets the Night Boy” is available on all streaming platforms, and she is currently working on her debut album!

Thank you so much to everyone that came out for the and show!

Big thanks to Our DWTN's funding for arts & culture for helping to fund this show!

Given the unexpected change in venues, there were some costs that I'm on the hook for some contractual items for this show (about $700). If you were able to attend and enjoyed the show, and would like to donate/contribute to help the Hot Local Singles live shows rolling, I will be gratefully taking donations & contributions! I can take e-transfers at [email protected] if you feel inclined, but absolutely no obligation!

If we exceed that $700, I won't take any profits on this show, all excess funds will be passed along to the bands 🤗

I dearly love free, public shows like this one, and am glad that we could utilize an accessible public space for community to coen together and celebrate live music together!

I'm also incredibly grateful for the support from the City of Victoria, CFUV, and the Fifty Fifty Arts Collective, especially Trison, Sofia, Troy and Rowan for making this venue change possible!
