The Producers of the 3rd Annual Marathong would like to apologize wholeheartedly for presenting material in our recent show that was damaging to our community.
We allowed material to be presented that misappropriated Black culture through song choice and hair style. This was profoundly hurtful to our community as a whole, and in particular to Black and other BIPOC performers and peers. We broke the community’s trust by having this performance on our stage. We acknowledge the harmful effects of this. We are also working with the performer to help guide and work towards acknowledgement and action for the harm caused.
If you, would like to have a discussion with Gala and T***y T***y Bang Bang, we welcome the opportunity and want to listen, honour and take any actions that we can to ensure no further harm occurs from this.
We would like to extend our gratitude to the community members who have brought this to our attention and those who are aiding us in our next steps to repair the damages that have occurred within our community.
