𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝗻 𝗮 𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲? 𝗧𝗵𝗲 𝗥𝗲𝗴 𝗠𝗶𝗱𝗴𝗹𝗲𝘆 𝗖𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗱𝗮 𝟮𝟬𝟬

With the 𝙍𝙚𝙜 𝙈𝙞𝙙𝙜𝙡𝙚𝙮 𝘾𝙖𝙣𝙖𝙙𝙖 200 only one week away, we'd thought that we would take a look at the man who helped start the race back in 1972 and whose name adorns the Canada 200 trophy.

Reg Midgley was a Vancouver Island sporting legend. Inducted into the Victoria Auto Racing Hall of Fame in 1987 and the Greater Victoria Sports Hall of Fame in 2006, Reg Midgley first got involved with auto racing when Langford's Western Speedway opened in 1954.

First owning a car with his brother Dick Midgley, the brothers would work their way up from the Jalopy division to Stock Cars, before Reg would get involved in the organizational side of motorsports for the first time when he was elected as the president of the Vancouver Island Track Racing Association in 1961.

In 1963 Reg would start Reg Midgley Promotions and take over running Nanaimo's Grandview Bowl as well as helping to start the Canadian American Modified Racing Association (CAMRA).

With the formation of the Western Speedway (1966) LTD. ownership group to take over Western Speedway, Reg became the promoter for the track. In 1970 he was one of the driving forces in the creation of the famed International Drivers Challenge.

Through his tenure he also brought in names like Bobby Allison, two-time Indy 500 winner Roger Ward and Janet Guthrie, the first woman to qualify for the Indianapolis 500 to compete at the speedway.

Reg also had a long tenure as the track announcer at Western Speedway. He would go on to establish the International Pro Stock Tour and serve as the president for the Western Auto Racing Promoters Association (WARPA).

Reg passed away in 2010, with his memory honored each year with the running of the Reg Midgley Canada 200.

You can get your tickets for next weekend's Reg Midgley Canada 200 at saratogaracing.ca before your favourite seat is gone!

Since a very young age, Brandon has been around race cars but it wasn't until he was 19 years old that he got behind the wheel of one for the first time. His first car was a stock car that he raced in the Glen Lake Inn Stock Car Series at Western Speedway! Let's just say he was hooked after that!
