DJ Chris Poynter specializes in weddings and corporate events due to high demand in these areas, but is no stranger to school dances, house-parties, bars, and clubs. His corporate clients have included the likes of Hudson Yoga, Canadian Tire, Lululemon, Hudson's Bay, and the GoodLife Fitness Victoria Marathon. so has a great deal of experience as a live sound technician and recording engineer. As well as running sound for numerous small acts, he worked at the Chief Sepass Performing Arts Theatre in Langley for five years, and later as a part-time radio host for two years at CFUV 101.9 FM in Victoria. During his time at CFUV, he also enhanced his skill set by completing the course MUS 306: Sound Recording Techniques at UVic.

Here’s another recent event at , for the annual “Hunt Ball” event that I have had the pleasure of DJing for the past decade! This year’s theme was “The Greatest Showman,” so I designed a custom video monogram for my DJ booth and deployed my uplights in alternating red and white to give some serious circus tent vibes! 🎪

Here’s some shots from a recent corporate gig I did where the client told me that they’d love it if I could incorporate a “golden” colour into my DJ booth for their upcoming rebranding. I went a step further and did my best to also bathe the room in a warm golden glow with my uplights—let me know how I did in the comments!

Check out my clean setup for a recent corporate holiday party at : I brought one of my custom DJ booths with a video monogram I designed, incorporating the company’s logo and a message they wanted to include; programmed music-reactive uplighting around the ballroom; and a super punchy little sound system suited to the space and number of guests. 🔥

Ceremony:
It was quite the challenge. The rain was coming down so hard that it was actually a bit difficult to hear the officiant where I was situated at the back. I took a noise-level reading of the rain, mid-ceremony, and it was 79.8 dB! 😱

Dinner:
I set up a portable speaker and wireless mic for the MC and speeches. It’s a pretty small space so I played background music from my main system in the adjoining room (rather than the portable speaker) so as to not overwhelm the space with sound.

Dancing:
I created a custom monogram for my DJ booth, based on the wedding invitation the client sent me ahead of time. I put uplighting around the space, as well as two uplights under the water pitchers at the bar, which gave a super cool music-activated effect!
