Grass tennis on Australia's Great Ocean Road! About two hours out of Melbourne we found a historic oceanside hotel with grass and hard tennis courts (while at the Aus Open in 2020). It is in the charming town of Lorne on Australia's Great Ocean Road. A tennis player/surfers dream! We are dreaming about going back and planning our trip for next year's Australian Open. It is an event and a country not to be missed! Check out our video https://youtu.be/1H_nxH_Y0rg Mantra Lorne

When we visited Australia for the Australian Open Tennis Tournament a couple of years ago, we had the opportunity to play at Kooyong Tennis Club.

Kooyong is one of the largest and oldest tennis clubs in the world and is known as 'The Spiritual Home of Australian Tennis'.
The club near Melbourne, has over 9,500 members and over 50 courts. The Australian Open Tennis Tournament was played on grass, here at the Kooyong Tennis Club until 1977.

We checked out the club and took in a drill session. The grass courts are only open on weekends so we had to do the session on clay. But the experience of playing at this legendary club was outstanding.

Check out our video that we shot at the Kooyong Tennis Club

As the Australian Open unfolds, we reflect on our amazing time at the tournament in 2020.

One of the tennis clubs we visited was Carlton Gardens Tennis Club. It is in a UNESCO World Heritage Site, surrounded by historic buildings and gardens.

The club was warm and welcoming to our group of Canadians and accepted our challenge for a fun Canada vs Australia tournament on their national holiday, Australia Day.

We were amazed by the club's commitment to sustainability. Their power is sourced from renewables and their courts are designed to use very little water in response to the country's water shortages.

Carlton Gardens Tennis Club also has a strong dedication to social sustainability. They run free programs for homeless people, disadvantaged children and programs for women only where they provide a safe environment.

We were absolutely amazed at this club with its four courts with 'mod grass' and historic clubhouse, as we were with their beautiful country! And of course the outstanding Australian Open tournament.
