UW Food Services Serving up great meals and snacks to the University of Waterloo community.

University of Waterloo Food Services (UWFS) provides a range of products and services to students, faculty, staff, and the broader community through the operation of 24 outlets. The department includes residence cafeterias, cash operations outlets, franchises, Catering Services, Conference Services, vending and a fine dining outlet at the University Club. The department provides meal plans, food-r

elated wellness and nutritional programs, in addition to a range of initiatives supporting student life, diversity and culture. UWFS is a self-operated ancillary service; not a common format for today's institutions. As a key stakeholder in student services, UWFS strives to create and cultivate a comprehensive service that promotes a healthy, sustainable university environment. The cornerstones for future planning and the daily operation includes UWFS core values of Customer, Convenience and Choice. Purchasing fresh local food is a priority for UW Food Services to promote nutrition awareness, availability and selection for their customers.

Last September, the University Club reopened for a trial period to assess the long-term viability of its operations. The restaurant closed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic but was experiencing other challenges as well, including the need for essential renovations and maintenance. In preparation for its opening, critical maintenance was conducted to address issues related to safety, aging equipment, and short-term building operation.  
Open for lunch Monday through Friday from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., patronage fluctuated at different points throughout the year but was always significantly less than what was required to achieve break-even revenue. Given the outstanding building maintenance and operational costs needed to remain a table-service restaurant and bookable hospitality space, it is neither feasible nor sustainable for the University Club to remain operational at this time.
Although the University Club is no longer available for table service, we will continue to deliver a wide variety of delicious options with exceptional service for your private events and holiday parties.

A special heartfelt thanks to the amazing staff that we’ve had throughout the years at the UC. Your dedication to supporting the University Club for years through its ups and downs will always be cherished and appreciated.
