Our Story
Festival Players of Prince Edward County is the region’s professional theatre company.
For more than 10 years, we have been bringing the beautiful landscapes, towns and villages of the County to life through the incredible power of theatre.
Graham Abbey, acclaimed stage, TV and film actor, director and founder of The Groundling Theatre Company, has assumed the role of Artistic Director, with 2018 being his first season in this role. Abbey, with over 30 Stratford roles to his credit has also directed three critically acclaimed productions for Groundling Theatre including, The Winter’s Tale and Measure for Measure at the Winter Garden Theatre and LEAR at Harboufrount Theatre in Toronto.
Founded in 2006 by John Burns, and led by Artistic Director Sarah Phillips from 2007-2016, Festival Players has produced and presented work by some of Canada’s finest theatre artists including world premieres of new works by Dave Carley (A Splinter in the Heart), and John Gray (Amelia: The Girl who Wanted to Fly). Productions have taken place in a century-old barn, under a tent in an estate vineyard, in a village church-turned-theatre, and on the beautiful properties of many of the County’s finest agricultural and hospitality businesses. Graham Abbey joined Festival Players in 2017/18 as Artistic Director.
