Where are my fellow gardeners? Put a green emoji in the comments so I can see you!
I don’t know about you, but the rains and the heat have turned my garden into a lush but weed-infested extravaganza. It’s about now that I get a bit overwhelmed. I needed an attitude adjustment, so I looked to an old friend - Mr Stuart MacLean at the Vinyl Cafe. His shows are being replayed by his producer (thank you, Jess! 🙏❤️). Here is the episode that helped me have the courage to get back out to the jungle.

Last night the Northern Lights put on quite the show! We stayed up late laying on the deck watching it all unfold. (The sounds in the background are our chimes, the tap at the pond and the wind )

An interesting symbiotic relationship, have always enjoyed watching this in our garden and wondering just how the ants are attracted and no other insects, must be a very specific smelling nectar....We have now added Peonies to our plant selection list on the Garden Planner so you can add them to your garden plans, here is a grow guide...

What a big week, first Earth Day and now the full moon! Let's celebrate.

We don't need an excuse to get out and enjoy the moon (howling is optional but encouraged). But if you do want an excuse, read below.
Thanks to Roz for sharing this beautiful bit of art and the seasonal advice!

🐸 HAPPY FULL PINK MOON! Typically in my region, the full moon in May carries the last chance of frost, but when the full Moon 🌝 arrives late in April, it frequently marks the same. Because spring can be fickle, there is also a long history of looking to botanical indicators like Shadbush (Amalanchier canadensis) and Dogwood blooming, and the time when oak leaves grow to the size of a mouses ear 🐭 to insure safe planting. This full moon can offer a safe time to plant cold tolerant greens and herbs like borage, calendula, fennel, spinach, lettuce, kale, collards etc.
And don't forget to get out tonight along with the peepers and celebrate the full Moon and the arrival of spring with a howl, a peep or a Moon dance around the fire!

Artist appears to be either Alec Monopoly or Claude Ponte. Thx everyone!

Today is Candlemas, or Imbolc as the ancient Celts called it. It's also called Cross-Quarter Day - the halfway point between winter solstice and spring equinox. It signifies the first glimmer of warmer weather and the promise of new energy.

We don't need to depend on what the groundhog says to decide if we want to look forward to spring; we can take our own initiative and make great plans for the new season and beyond.

Now is the time to think of the seeds you want to plant for this growing season. We build momentum so that we can spring into the light, even when there are obstacles. Now is the time to set our intentions and make room for new energy to achieve our goals.

I'll close with a poem that might offer a bit of inspiration, or at least a seasonal frame of mind :)

Goddess of the sacred pause
please grant me the courage
to lay aside swiftness
and take up slowness,
to embrace limitations as learning,
silence as stabilizing,
waiting as worthy,
and sitting as divine.
Goddess of the sacred pause
help me to know stillness as strength,
patience as powerful,
and healing time
as holy necessity.

It’s going to be a full moon tonight - the last one of the year, and since it’s the first one after the winter solstice, it’s called the Long Night Moon. A full moon at Christmas, and Kwanzaa, is a rare thing, so make sure you get outside for a peek if the skies are clear!
We are taking this as a good omen for light and prosperity into the new year, and we wish you all the best as we leap into 2024.

Today’s the day! Looking forward to seeing everyone tonight - anyone between 7 and 9 pm 😋
No need to bring anything, unless you want to offer a donation to the Food Bank.
For those we won’t see, we’ll be thinking of you and sending our love your way 🥰

Happy Halloween, everyone!

Happy March, everyone!

Here's hoping Mother Nature decides to head in a forward direction soon.

Stay warm, and enjoy good company. That will take your mind off those days that go in the wrong direction.

As we wave goodbye to the tiger and move into the Year of the Rabbit, what can we expect from the year to come?

Happy Winter Solstice! It is not only the shortest day of the year, but here it’s one of the coldest. Here’s hoping you can keep your heart warm even if you have to go outside ❤️
I thought I’d share a bit of winter cuteness today. Snuggle in and enjoy.

And that’s a wrap, folks!

Winter arrived in a hurry last night and we awoke to this. (See the last post for what it looked like a few days ago.) Further up the slopes, our friends got as much as 10 inches of snow!
We are glad to have closed up the gardens, and we are now ensconced inside, enjoying the last of the tomatoes, herbs and collard greens.

Stay warm, peeps!

We had a beautiful stroll yesterday, kicking through the last of the leaves falling in the orchards at Paynter's Fruit Market Freyja is making sure the perimeter stays secure, now that the field crew will be much less visible with only winter pruning left to do. It has been a bountiful season - we are very grateful. Happy Samhain, and to all those witches out there, Happy New Year!

It was the last mad dash yesterday to bring in harvest before the temperatures head to freezing. I was struck by another Nature’s efforts to give it her all right to the end… what a beautiful inspiration 🥰
