A small outdoor folk festival with big heart ❤️ Now in our fourth year, we are excited to bring some of the most original folk artists to our stage.

Rooted in the belief that music, and community, make the world a far better place, my Dad and I envisioned a special night of music - to help our family, friends and community stop the world for a brief moment - to share in song and celebrate the beauty in this life. Thus, 'The Schindig' was born, titled with the first 3 letters of our family name and hosted on land that has been in our family since the 1920s.

This year’s festival was a dandy.

So grateful to everyone who had a hand in making it so - from the listeners, to the music makers, to the food crafters, to the potters, and the coffee makers, and all the family and friends that have supported me both on the day and on the road to Cedar Valley Schindig

Part of the fun of organizing this whole thing is the planning and creativity that is required.

Dad creates with wood, lights, and plants so that the site is the perfect place to take in the tunes.

I get to create with words and ideas, and dabble in graphic design. These shirts were a product of that, and I’m pretty pumped about them.

And the menu is out👌from our friends F.N. Happy Farm for this Saturday’s festival!

Reminder that gates open at 5pm, so you can come on in, find your spot, set up your chairs, browse some merch, and perhaps even place your food order before the show gets going at 6pm.

Food will be available throughout the show on a first come first served basis.

It would a great help if you could bring your own mason jars, reusable containers, and utensils in an effort to make less waste for the planet 🌎

Everything is made straight from farm-grown ingredients. And I think this year’s menu might be my favourite to date.

First to the stage this year is the lovely Lucy Farrell

Odd, unconventional melodies, poetic, sophisticated song-writing and the bewitching clarity of Kent-born, Canada-based Lucy Farrell’s voice are made elegant with sparse, careful accompaniment on tenor guitar and occasionally viola, carving out a unique niche for an artist at the forefront of contemporary English folk music.

Finding an international audience among artists like Julia Jacklin, Emily Portman, The Weather Station, The Unthanks and Eliza Carthy, the 2017 BBC Radio 2 Folk Award Winner Lucy Farrell is not only awarded as a renowned composer and singer, but also as viola/fiddle/tenor guitar-player. Her work as a band member and collaborator with such artists and projects as Eliza Carthy and the Wayward Band; Gluepot; Modern Fairies; The Furrow Collective; Carthy, Oates, Farrell & Young; and her duo work with Andrew Waite and Jonny Kearney, respectively has meant releasing a collection of her distinctive solo work has had to wait – until now.

Schindig 2022 is one for the books.

A huge thank you to everyone who shared in the success. Thank you for embracing the music, the people, the food, and the space.

A shoutout to The Lowlies for making such an impression. We will support every record you make from now until eternity. Your character and music are unmatched.

Thank you to the Lonesome Ace Stringband for crafting a show unlike any other. You left everyone dancing off into the night with awe and excitement for live music.

Hi, my name is Laura 👋. This is not my comfort zone, hence the rambling 😬. However, I thought it was important for everyone to understand how this whole thing came to be. Heck, though life may bring some hard things - there are also a lot of really beautiful things that seem to unravel before us. I think how this ‘Schindig’ all came to be is truly one of these magical things. We will be missing @chatham_rabbits this year, but we are certain that more and more people will discover their gift from whichever stage they take. We also know that the combination of @coole.chris and @showman_music will present another uniquely inspiring experience, as will @hannahshiranaiman and her dad @arnienaiman ! We are all truly in for a treat! August 29th…4pm. @cedarvalley_schindig Side note - For those that stuck it out to the bitter end, I’d like to make one small clarification (I was afraid if I redid this whole thing it would end up even longer 😱) What I meant was that my Dad has joined a few zoom calls with Chris for banjo lessons, not with John.
