Great wedding photography isn't about posing... I just put people in places or situations and let them do their thing... I can usually predict how my couple will interact with each other. In this image, you can almost hear Eric telling Melissa how beautiful she is on their wedding day. And her emotional reaction to his words is the real magic I look to photograph.

Yesterday I photographed the wedding of Melissa & Eric. And while I'll be sure to share a few pics of their day.. I thought I should share with you Melissa's flowers. Check this out!! All made of paper! I've seen hundreds of weddings, and bridal bouquets... I can't remember ever seeing paper flowers... so cool!

You may have noticed the picture I posted of the Waters Edge Event Centre. If I recall, the post shares how much I love photographing there. And that is true. The venue is beautiful and one of a kind. I love shooting there, because of the shot included in that post. The grand stairs, the huge beautiful building, And of course, this day's Bride and Groom.
Selfishly, I love this image, because I don't see others do it. I'm sure it's out there, but there is so much work involved in this image to make it iconic. And when it's done right, it's just that iconic.

Here is the original, along with a quick rundown of what was done to make it iconic. Maybe I'll even include the edited version as well for comparison.
First, I stand out in the middle of Riverside Drive to photograph this... traffic flying by me on both sides while we wait "patiently" for everyone to join us on the stairs. Then I do the following edits.
-Straighten
-Warm it up
-copy left window, place on right side, invert and mask out bricks etc. (the camera on the right is actually facing the wrong way in the edit)
-the big circle window, is duplicated and flipped upside down, and masked out to ensure the new bottom lines up perfectly with the new top half
-replace sky for a more ominousness one
-reduce highlights
clone out and all remaining lingering power line that ran through out.

I've done this a few times so it's relatively quick... maybe 5 minutes :)

I love photographing at the Waters Edge Event Centre. So when my wedding is there, I'm sure to photograph a group shot of everyone out on the front steps.
It's a grand view of a beautiful Windsor landmark, this time showcasing the wedding of James & Gemma!

Saturday Flashback... 2 years ago I posted this image of Dylan & Amanda. At the time I thought the image was fantastic.... and it still rings true today. I really like this image. But it really has nothing to do with me in this case.... sure I put them in a position to interact and look good... but the expressions, the chemistry... I have nothing to do with that. Just great people who are clearly into each other! This is still one of my all-time favorites!

BLOOPER ALERT!!
Felicia wanted an image of Jared carrying her... and her veil "blowing in the wind"... Of course, the wind is perfectly unpredictable, so to achieve the "blowing in the wind effect" I'll use an agile bridesmaid or groomsman to toss the veil and dodge out of the way. Well this time, the bridesmaid actually pulled the veil right out of Felicia's hair lol.

When shooting my bride and grooms, I'll often use one or two situations (Backgrounds) and "flow" through from pose to pose, always ensuring you look fantastic. If you recall my last post, this is Jared & Felicia again, using the same barn at John R Park Homestead. This time, however, it's a completely different angle, pose and look. And this is how I can maximize the number of great images in such a short time for my couples! 🏆 ⏳
