I’m finalizing my 2022 planting plans today and simultaneously getting lost day dreaming of all the colour that is to come this year🌈🌈

I’m expanding my Dahlia seedling patch this year and it’s going to be epic. I was fortunate enough to collect lots of fancy Dahlia seed from some of my all time favourite varieties. I can’t wait to see what these little seeds produce🌱

Dahlia seeds are always a mystery and you never know what kind of blooms you’ll get. This is my fav thing about growing Dahlia seeds! Everyday you see new and unusual blooms and it’s like a treasure hunt. So if you like being shocked, delighted and surprised by your garden then Dahlia seeds are for you!!🌸

My Dahlia seed sale starts this Saturday, featuring seed from my very own private collection. In the past I haven’t had enough seed to share but this year I finally have enough to sell and I’m so excited to send these little babies out to you✨🌼

Tubers are being spilt, seeds are being packed and I am busy making all sorts of growing plans for the upcoming season. There’s only 61 days til Spring, just saying!

This year I’ll be growing more than 15,000 Dahlias, including plants from seeds, tubers and cuttings. I’m already deep in thought about my planting layout and colour schemes🧐🌈

One of the things I miss the most about summer is heading out to the Dahlia field bright and early with coffee in hand to wander my seedling rows and look for new Dahlia treasures. It’s seriously the most peaceful part of my day🌈✨

Dahlias grown from seed are total surprises and no two blooms are the same. This is because Dahlias have 8 sets of chromosomes. This is also how new varieties of Dahlias are found and hybridized, and ultimately released to the public🌱

Breeding new Dahlias is essentially a treasure hunt and I’m totally obsessed. Last year I planted over 10,000 Dahlia seedlings and found some definite keepers. I’m gearing up to plant even more this season and I’m so excited to share all the Dahlia magic with you, Pick Your Own Dahlia days will be here in no time🎉🌼

A little Dahlia colour to start your day off right🌈 this is one of my 2021 seedlings, I remember the day I found her blooming in the field, she stopped me dead in my tracks and it was like love at first sight 😍

Dahlias grown from seed are all one of kind, no two are the same. By planting seeds, growers like myself are able to scope out new varieties but it can take years to get those new varieties into production. It might be a long haul process but finding stunners like this make it all worth it🌸✨

Dahlia seeds are easy to grow and can be planted anywhere with full sun, either in pots or directly in the garden. Plant Dahlia seeds and you’ll have a riot of colour blooming all summer long. It’s also worth mentioning that hummingbirds, butterflies and bumblebees love love love Dahlia blooms, so if you’re looking to attract some wildlife this is the plant for you!

Whats the big deal with local Ranunculus? Aside from the endless ruffles and bold colour locally grown nuncs are fresher, longer lasting and better for the environment compared to standard imported blooms✨

Ranunculus blooms are also not widely available as most growers sell them directly to floral wholesalers who in turn sell them to florists at a wholesale markup. Florists then have to add their own retail markup in order to sell to the public. This process usually results in some seriously expensive nuncs💐

This inspired me to start growing my own Ranunculus, because we the people deserve Ranunculus in our lives!

FLASH FLOWER SALE🎉🌈🌸The Dahlias are holding on and going strong and I am just not ready to say goodbye yet. Winter might be coming but for now colour and joy are pouring out of the field and I want to share it all with you✨🌸

Fall cleanup will be starting soon and I will have to mow down the Dahlia field and dig up all my precious tubers for next year. After a long season, digging and packing tubers is about as fun as it sounds. Especially when there are 15 000 Dahlia plants in ground. But it’s totally necessary so I won’t be complaining tooo much. FLASH FLOWER SALE🎉🌈🌸The Dahlia Field is really hitting its stride now that the weather has cooled off a bit. I can hardly believe we are almost into October and Dahlia Tuber Digging Season. It seems like just yesterday I was planting these little babes out there. Swipe to see the field! Fall is kind of a weird time for me, with my Dahlia crop ending and the first seeds for next year being sown. Some days I don’t know how to feel (except tired) and am caught somewhere between the sadness of saying goodbye to the Dahlias and the excitement for what’s to come next season. Even though everything is changing I am looking forward to crisp, quiet days and all the fun workshops I have planned (tickets to my Thanksgiving Workshop are now available!) I am also looking forward to cozy days in big sweaters and all the warm beverages. Good things are coming!!

My Dahlia field is really hitting its stride these days. Many of my new varieties were planted late in the season and for a while I was sure I planted tooo late and would never see my new plants bloom.

Enter faith, trust and Dahlia magic. My late planting is making for a fantastic late crop and my new varieties are showing up to the party🎉🎉

I’ve added two more PICK YOUR OWN DAHLIA days for next week. You must book online in advance, no tickets are sold at the door. This is your last chance to pick until next season.

Speaking of next season I am super proud to announce that I have rented more land and am significantly expanding my Dahlia field and Pick Your Own patch. I’ll even have room for a dedicated pollinator patch!! Good things are coming and I can’t wait to share it all with you❤️
