Flowers by Design opened its doors Mothers day 1995. We sent out over 200 arrangements this weekend. I have just enough energy left to be grateful. Grateful to spend every day doing what I love, in my beautiful store located in the coolest area of the city. Thank you for allowing me to do what I do for the last 29 years. We simply had to shout out this wonderful lady today! This is Nada, one of Walkerville’s matriarchs, who celebrated her 98th birthday yesterday. On top of being totally self-sufficient, when asked for a photo with her flowers, she asked if we preferred to use her phone or tablet 😱. We can only hope to be so sharp at 98 years young. Happy Birthday Nada!

With International Women’s Day just 10 days away, we thought we’d give you a little history lesson 📚
The Mimosa (or acacia delbata) is a hearty plant with fluffy, fragrant, bright yellow flowers, and a profound history. After the Second World War, it was adopted by feminists in Italy as the symbol of the strength, beauty and resilience of women. For over a hundred years, International Women’s Day has been observed and celebrated all across Europe and the Americas, but it was on March 8th 1946 that the Mimosa became the icon of solidarity and sisterhood that we know it as today. And this year, IWD will fall on that same day - March 8th!
