• Keynote 6-7 pm Drs Sherry Farrell Racette and Allyson Stevenson

Aunties Sherry Farrell Racette and Allyson Stevenson will speak about Métis ethics of knowledge transmission is decentralized, community-based, and, at its heart, cognizant of the significant historical, social, political, and cultural aspects of different Métis communities and individuals. Rooting Métis ethics in a Métis worldview supports Métis scholars, community, and knowledge systems and trusts in the integral processes that Métis people have developed for the transmission of Métis knowledges and the strengthening of Métis communities.

• 7:00 Phillip & Charlene Van Buekehout

Using movement, gesture, and performance Charlene and Philip take you into their world of Southern Michif language learning, using theatre as a tool for expression and revitalization. Come join for the silly and playful antics this pair have to offer, you might just learn a word or two.

For the past three years Charlene and Philip, theatre artists and Michif language learners, have been exploring Michif language revitalization through performance as the Southern Michif performers. First gathering to develop Doo-Pashkishok Lii Padrii, an adaptation of a short story by language teacher Heather Souter. They have continued this work in festivals and Cabarets. Support for their past projects come from the Louis Riel Institute and Canada Council for the Arts. Kichi-marsii to all the language teachers and speakers who have helped support us on our journey.

• 7:20 Barney Morin

Barney Morin is a bilingual comedian from the small town of Otterburne, Manitoba. Barney has been busy in the Winnipeg comedy scene. In the summer of 2022, he will be performing a one-man show called, "A Very Serious Night with Barney Morin." Recently, Barney has been busy writing. He wrote a play about the life of Louis Riel, a tour about Rat River Métis and maple syrup and a live-action historical tour. If he's not on stage, he's hugging a tree or running from bears.

• 7:40 Brandi Vezina and guests

Brandi Vezina is a Red River Metis singer/songwriter with roots intertwined with classic country and rock. It's been a busy and exciting year for Brandi Vezina. She landed coveted showcases at BreakOut West and Country Music Week, a spot in the Women in Music Canada Entrepreneur Accelerator and is the 2024 recipient of the Vince Fontaine Legacy Award. Vezina writes & sings about what she knows, lives, and loves.

• 8:00 Morgan Grace

Morgan Grace has been playing the fiddle since she was four years old. She grew up in East Selkirk, Manitoba. Morgan has grown up surrounded by homegrown music, and her playing style demonstrates her comfort in playing the fiddle in various settings. Fiddle players have surrounded Morgan since birth; her natural abilities truly reflect this lifelong connection.
