Kathleen McGee made an impression on anyone who saw her perform. Her acerbic wit and devil-may-care attitude made us all laugh from the deepest parts of ourselves. She lived a life of intensity, and a terminal cancer diagnosis didn’t slow her down. We were incredibly honoured to host her comedy roast at this year’s fest, and anyone in the audience could see that she was adored and respected by her comedy family; even as the barbs flew, the love and laughter grew.

You are missed, Kathleen. Thank you for the laughter. F*&% cancer.

Mark your calendars - International touring comedian, Vōng Shō, performs in his hometown of Winnipeg for the first time in his 20-year career!

‘Vōng Shō: The Chosen One’ is Vong’s “love letter to Winnipeg” exploring his special connection with the city and how it shaped him and his career.

This is a special presentation in collaboration with the Winnipeg Comedy Festival, at the iconic and newly renovated Gas Station Arts Centre. The performance will be taped for later release as a comedy special on streaming platforms.

Vōng’s love of Winnipeg is grounded in his admiration for the people of Winnipeg and their unique voices. As such, the show will open with his favourite local, upcoming talents including Dewey Parker, Jeff Gobeil, and Shy Sapp 👏😁

In 2022, Dion Arnold performed for the first time at Winnipeg Comedy Festival. At the time, we assumed it was the first of many. His set was about his elderly grandmother’s choice to end her own long and happy life with the MAID program. On paper, such a sombre true story seems like a longshot to be anything more than sporadically and darkly, uncomfortably funny. But it was phenomenal - by turns honest, silly, touching, ridiculous, heartbreaking, and ultimately utterly lovely and life-affirming. And through all that, it was consistently laugh-out-loud funny. It was arguably the set of the festival, and one of the best to ever grace our stage. It takes a very special person to pull that off, and was a very special person, whose enormous talent was matched by his enormous heart and humanity. We’re deeply saddened to learn of his passing from cancer, and we extend our sincere condolences to his friends and family.
