Our beautiful Triglav dance ensemble in their Gorenjska costumes.

The region of Gorenjska, also known as Upper Carniola, is a stunning region in northwest Slovenia nestled among the Julian Alps, Karavanke, and Kamnik-Savinja mountain ranges. It’s home to Triglav National Park, Slovenia’s only national park, and iconic natural landmarks like Lake Bled and Lake Bohinj.

The richness of the Gorenjska costume lies in its intricate craftsmanship, symbolic design, and deep cultural resonance. This richness isn’t just aesthetic—it signifies social status, regional pride, and a connection to ancestral traditions. Today, the costume is worn during festivals and folk performances, serving as a living tribute to Slovenia’s heritage and the artistry of its people.

Happy day 3 everyone!

This is Sam and Steffi Parker, they are the youth ambassadors of the Slovenija Pavilion this year. Sam and Steffi, who are siblings, have been visiting the Slovenija Pavilion for as long as they can remember!

Steffi, who is on the left is currently her first year of volunteering at the Slovenija pavilion. Her favourite part of the Slovenija pavilion is by far the energy. Everyone is so polite and kind it makes you feel so welcomed when you attend! When showing guests around the cultural display she loves talking about the 7 regions of Slovenija. Each region has such a unique style and history about them that is very fun to speak about. Her favourite food at the pavilion is the palačinke made with strawberry jam. She loves how sweet it tastes.

Sam, on the right is also currently in his first year of volunteering at the Slovenija Pavilion. Sam is proud to have the honour to take part and represent the Slovenija pavilion this year. His favourite part of the Slovenian Pavilion favourite part of the pavilion is the cuisine. Slovenian dishes hold a special place in his heart and he finds it amazing to be able to share that with the Winnipeg community. When showing guests around the cultural display he enjoys speaking about the 7 different regions of Slovenija. He finds the diversity of Slovenian culture so fascinating, considering its small size. Whether it’s the attire or architecture, Slovenija has very different and diverse regions in his opinion. His favourite food to eat at the Slovenija pavilion is the slow roasted bbq pork dinners, as well as the klobasa.

Sam and Steffi are so excited to show you around our amazing Slovenija pavilion and speak to you about the countries diverse lands.

✨ Welcome to our fit check! ✨ Take a look at Ava and Julianne rocking the traditional Prekmurje costume!
Prekmurje is a unique region in Slovenia, known for its expansive plains and agricultural heritage—quite similar to Manitoba’s wide-open farmland. While most of Slovenia features mountainous terrain and rolling hills, Prekmurje stands apart with its flat landscapes and rustic charm.
One of the region’s most beloved symbols is the stork. These elegant birds are often seen nesting across the countryside and are famously linked to the whimsical image of storks delivering babies wrapped in blankets—a nod to folklore you’ll likely recognize!
