UW mounts play set in Norway 🇳🇴 about explorer Nansen, climate change...

The University of Winnipeg’s Theatre & Film Department presents Forward, Feb. 11-25, 7:30 p.m., at UW’s Asper Centre for Theatre and Film, 400 Colony (entrance off Balmoral St). Admission is free.

The play by Chantal Bilodeau is set in Norway and presents a poetic and humorous history of our relationship to the environment. Focussing on explorer Fridtjof Nansen, it contrasts the initial passion that drove him to the North Pole with present-day anxiety over the rapidly changing climate. His obsession is animated as a love affair with the character of Ice. In the end, he leaves us to grapple with the consequences of the need for constant movement forward, for progress at any cost.

Director Hope McIntyre describes the play as a blend of theatre, opera, and electro-pop music. As Nansen’s journey progresses forward, the audience watches the contemporary world move backward, with scenes spanning from 2017 to 1893. A cast of nine actors plays 40+ characters whose choices leave a legacy for many generations to come.

ONLINE TICKET RESERVATIONS available at www.uwinnipeg.ca/theatre-film/

Ticket Reservations for our next show are now open! Forward by Chantal Bilodeau runs in the ACTF Theatre Feb 11 - 15, with several accessibility options available. Click on this box to go the show page!
