Aaron Irving from Edmonton Canada broke the Czech Extraliga record today with Sparta Praha ( Prague ) with 19 goals in one season. Not bad for a kid from the WHL that grinded it starting in the ECHL then Norway then Sweden and has found a home in Prague. The Nashville Predators pick has proven that you can have a great career in Europe. Check out the video today in this Tweet

This will be a long story but worth it.

In 2018 Peter Quenneville called me and said " hey I have a buddy in the Coast that should go to Europe I said ok who is he ..... Aaron Irving" He was a late pick of the Nashville Predators and in his rookie ECHL year had 48 points in 60 games on defence which are amazing numbers. The people at Storhamer in Norway said ok we will bring him in. After twisting his arm a bit he agreed to go. Norway is a decent league and he was able to record over 60 points in 60 games.

The SHL them came calling and perhaps the only time when he didn't have success was in Orebro and was bought out then move to Czech to play for Litvinov. Then to Saipa in Finland whom were having a bad season and then Davos let him join their team for the balance of the year.

Aaron did catch the eye of mgmt in Sparta Praha ( Prague ) and hasn't looked back. This year he has 20 goals so far and has set a record for defence scoring which was 19 goals the previous record was 18 by Brady Austin.

Aaron is a fan favorite and not scared to drop the mitts plus score valuable goals and the crowd loves him. Sparta mgmt has rewarded Aaron with a new 2 year contract today and we all say thank you and Aaron looks forward to bring home a championship this year for the Sparta Praha fans.

Aaron Irving has put up some big numbers in his second season with

11 goals 19 points in 27 GP this season last year Aaron had 16 points in 49 GP.

This is Aaron’s 7th season in Europe.

💸 😳 Awful news for Canadian hockey, as they are likely losing two more professional hockey teams - the Newfoundland Growlers and Trois-Rivieres Lions — both in the ECHL - due to bankruptcy.

The clubs, which are the second-tier affiliates of the Maple Leafs and the Canadiens, respectively, are majority-owned by Deacon Sports and Entertainment, which is nearing bankruptcy and owes the city of Trois-Rivière more than $600K.

They are at risk of folding before the 2023-24 season is even finished.
The ECHL has set a deadline for DSE to sell the clubs by April 2. However, the sale of both franchises is unexpected to happen in time. The ECHL's board of governors, led by commissioner Ryan Crelin, will meet Tuesday to decide whether to allow them to play out the season. Regardless, the league will absorb ownership of the two franchises after the April 2 deadline.
