ManaBar ist ein Projekt des Vereins für Aufklärung über Internet und Spielkultur. Der Verein engagiert sich im Bereich Kultur vor allem für Projekte und Events im Bereich Tabletop, Sammelkartenspiele, Pen & Paper, Computerspiele und Cosplay. Diese Communities sind oft missverstanden oder werden in den Medien falsch dargestellt. Der kulturelle Aspekt wird oft belächelt, auch wenn viele Bereiche, wi

e Computerspiele welche immer mehr auch als Sport angesehen werden (eSports), langsam auf dem Vormarsch sind, so ist die Anerkennung als Kultur weiterhin ausstehend. Mit dem Projekt ManaBar soll ein Ort geschaffen werden, für eben jene die sich in diesen Communities aufhalten, ein Ort an welchem man den Hobbies nachgehen kann, ohne als verrückt abgestempelt zu werden. Innerhalb des Projektes wird aber auch kleineren Spielentwicklern, sowie Arbeitsgemeinschaften die sich mit dem Thema auseinandersetzen, eine Plattform geboten um sich auszutauschen. Der Austausch zwischen Spielern, Eltern, Fans und allen die sich mit der Szene auseinandersetzen möchten, in dieser vernetzt sind oder sich Rat holen wollen, soll in der Mana Bar gefördert und unterstützt werden. Durch die Infrastruktur der ManaBar, ermöglichen wir Workshops, Infonachmittage und Events auf der ganzen Bandbreite, in einem geselligen und ungezwungenen Umfeld, welches zum wohlfühlen und verweilen einlädt. Zwar sind wir noch nicht dort wo wir sein wollen (das Projekt ist noch in der Planungsphase), jedoch organisieren wir bereits jetzt unter dem Label der ManaBar diverse Events, nicht nur zum Vergnügen, sondern auch um zu sehen, wie die Nachfrage in den einzelnen Bereichen sich darstellt, was gewünscht ist und was die No Go's sind. Wir prüfen in dem Rahmen auch, in wie weit das Konzept Anklang findet. ! Every week we are going to introduce you to one of our Team members.

This week meet Tom!
We are pretty sure that he does not need an introduction but surely you would like to know more about him. Tom is our boss behind the bar but basically also coordinates everything that goes on behind the scenes. He organises a lot of events such as the Plantation tasting of the last weekend or the Pubquiz. It is actually pretty hard to say what he does not do for the ManaBar so we would rather tell you more about himself: He is an avid mixologist with many years of expierence in the bar-scene and the drive to give you the best cocktail experience in town. As a passionate gamer and game-designer he is the perfect coordinator for a project such as ManaBar.

It's hard for me to pick a certain ManaBar story beacuse there are just too many. I think the beauty lies in the stories of how the bar became a safe space for other people: Friendships that were made. Dates that turned into relationships. We are constantly evolving, passing on our passion to our guests, keeping an innovative drive. We also always try to ensure that we keep offering a new experience for our guests every time they come visit. ☺️

This week meet Nick!
Nick is also part of our management team and generally involved in all decisions regarding ManaBar but preferes to stay in the back. His main role is Event Management but he definitely is an allrounder in the background (and sometimes even behind the bar!).

How it came to his involvement is also an interesting story:
„I came to the project by chance in the sense that I saw the kickstarter and was immediately interested in it. So I read into it and suddenly realised that Tom, my old high school friend, was part of the team so I simply wrote to him and asked if I could be part of the team. Initially they didn't need more people but after some time it turned out they did so I joined, and here we are exactly 6 years later! 😁“.

! Every week we are going to introduce you to one of our Team members.

This week meet Fernando!
Fernando is also part of our management team and together with Tom got the project rolling. He is a husband, father, bartender, biologist and teacher and one of the five owners of the ManaBar, though he retreated from the project almost entirely to dedicate his time to his family in 2019. Once in a blue moon he will make an appearance at the bar though to see what has become of the project.

- Fernando, tell us, what is your Drink of choice?
Although I do enjoy smoky and sour drinks, I have to go for some drinks from my bartender school days. Hard to decide which one is my favourite but I at least want to name one: The first cocktail I made my wife was a French Martini, so I like that one a lot as it holds many memories. 😊
- What is your favourite Game?
Recently I have mostly been playing Duplo with my kids, which is a lot of fun. Kids can truly show you a world of games you have long forgotten, if you allow it to happen. If I get a chance to play anything on PC I usually play fast round based games like „World of Tanks“.
- Tell us your favourite ManaBar story:
The ManaBar as a project has been a continuous story since 2015 with all of its ups and downs. Though I would like to tell the story of how Tom and I met. Back when Tom lived in a flat with roommates, I was actually given a tour of the home by his roommate. Tom was not home that day but I was granted a quick glance into his room by my tour guide. I immediately spotted his gaming computer, chair and a greenscreen. The second thing I saw was a pretty fancy speed opener (spinning bottle opener) that was proudly presented on a nail on the wall. I immediately thought: „This guy must be a bartender and seems to be very interested in games and streaming.“. In the first conversation I soon had with Tom we both found out that Tom and I both shared the same vision of a project that would in the end become the ManaBar as you know it now, I am very glad I reached out!

Tobi is also part of our management team and even though it doesn’t look like it, Tobi is the tech-wizard behind the scenes. Without him we would not be able to provide you with Computers, Consoles and all the the awesome eSports events!

„I joined the ManaBar Management at the start of 2020 after I organized some events at the Bar with my esports organisation SOS and I immediately became interested in this project! The rest is history…“

Fantasy Basel After Show Party 2021. The Bar was extremely full. For the staff that meant: All hands on deck! I was helping out running around and serving soft drinks and beer. When we ran out of ice I had to go get it at a nearby coop and some very nice customers helped me carry the big bags of ice back to the basement. That really sticked with me. I’m very thankful for the great team we have and the awesome customers! 🙏

Re-opening ManaBar

Die ManaBar ist offiziell wieder eröffnet! Es war ein unerwarteter Start in den Sommer und eine schwierige Zeit für uns alle. Wir wissen nicht so richtig was wir nach all den Strapazen sagen sollen, deshalb überlassen wir die Worte einfach Martin Klebba... (P.S.
