One week ago was the last concert of this season of Young Piano Series in with the winner of the Open Call 2023. In this first season we explored contemporary selection processes: who has the right to decide who gets a stage?

Last year, the Young Piano Series announced an Open-Call. All young pianists living in Europe should have the opportunity to apply for the last concert of the season.

And the winner is Simon Bürki! With roots in Switzerland and Ukraine, the 23-year-old pianist has been internationally active since childhood. At the age of eleven, he won several prizes at the International Horowitz Competition in Kiev, and the following year, he made his debut at the Tonhalle Zurich with Mozart’s Piano Concerto in D minor. Currently, he is studying at the prestigious Juilliard School in New York. On April 6, he will conclude the first season of the Young Piano Series with a spectacular program.

A drink after the concert and participation in the panel discussion with the artist and former Federal Councillor Simonetta Sommaruga are included in the price.

After the concert, Philippe Gaspoz moderated a Workshop with young pianists, students of and Magdalene Ho. They discussed about the challenges of young musicians nowadays and shared experiences on and off the stage.

We are pleased to announce the winner of our Open Call for Young Pianists 2023: SIMON BÜRKI 👏🏻

He was selected by all participants of the competition through our open voting system.

We want to congratulate all the participants. The artistic level was extremely high and we were very enthusiastic to see the evolution of these young artists, as well as to witness their interesting personalities and innovative strategies to become significant acclaimed musicians.
