Hated and shunned custom by both church and "intellectual elite" :
bringing food to graveyards for the dead ancestors.
The cemetery is a sacred space where the souls of the ancestors and the deceased reside, and it represents the place where this communication takes place, about all memorial services during the year.
The ancient Slavs also organized feasts for the deceased known as trizna - when the living organized special festivities dedicated to their ancestors.
Eggs are brought to the graves for each deceased family member, friend... Eggs are also distributed to the poor.
In Serbian culture, eating at the cemetery has remained an important part of ritual practice from afterlife cults whose roots are very deep and are linked to the pre-Christian period.
By the way, the food that is brought to the cemetery for 'sharing', according to belief, 'goes' to the deceased, so it is both varied and rich. As food is placed on the graves, random passers-by and the poor are entertained.
In accordance with the fact that we dedicate to the deceased everything that we think he liked to eat and drink during his life, and that we want to "please" him in this way, it is also the case that relatives often leave even lit ci******es on the graves of those who were smokers while they were alive.
