On March 10, the audience at the Markideio Theater in Paphos had the unique opportunity to share a remarkable musical experience with the highly accomplished Italian pianist Pietro de Maria. "The experience of listening to the virtuosity of Pietro de Maria was a real delight for my ears to listen to" stated the Ambassador of Austria to Cyprus, HE Mrs. Dorothea Auer. Austrian Embassy Nicosia

The concert began with Pietro de Maria addressing the audience and announcing that he would begin with a piece that was not on the programne, the Chorale "Jesus, bleibet meine Freude" by J.S.Bach, dedicated to the victims of the train tragedy that happened in Greece, among whom were two young Cypriots, referring to them by their names, Anastasia and Kyprianos... Deeply moved himself, he communicated his feelings to the audience, who also appreciated his act.

The concert continued, with the emotions being alternating, from piece to piece, and with the applause getting warmer and warmer.

HE the Counsel of the Embassy of Germany to Nicosia German Embassy Nicosia, Dr Dirk Haupt described his experience as follows: “This was an evening of truly great music, a unique experience of this congenial aesthete of the piano. Pietro de Maria performed works by Clementi, Schubert, Chopin and Liszt—with Bach added as a token of remembrance for the Cypriot victims of the tragic railroad accident in Greece—brilliantly and with great sensitivity. At the same time, the attentive listener notices the special musical and emotional attachment of the pianists to Chopin. It was on this wonderful evening as if Pietro De Maria wanted to show his audience in Paphos what makes Chopin unique in the piano music of all times.”

The audience was not ready to let go of the pianist and with their unstoppable applause led him to give two encores.

The Ambassador of Switzerland to Cyprus Embassy of Switzerland in Cyprus, HE Dr Chistoph Burgener Burgener Christoph, who is visiting Paphos for the second time specially to attend a Technopolis 20 Classics concert, characteristically said: “It rarely happens that a concert stays with me for days afterwards! The performance of the world-class pianist Pietro de Maria simply overwhelmed me. The lightness of his playing and the sensitive interpretation of the works performed were a breathtaking experience. Thanks to Technopolis 20 and to the main private sponsor, who made this extraordinary event possible.”

The audience talks about the incredible atmosphere created and is looking forward to Pietro's next concert in Cyprus! HE Dr Haupt added: “We like to come from Nicosia to Paphos in every concert, because we are always enriched by the music concert series ‘Technopolis 20 Classics’, organised by Technopolis 20, who, with the passionate private patron, offer first-class performances”.

The world-known pianist Pietro de Maria offered us an Exceptional, Expressional and Emotional music evening, but we cannot, not to also highlight the kindness of Pietro's personality, behind a great pianist.

Thank you!

The first concert of Technopolis 20 Classics concert series for the season was a Violin & Piano concert, a concert that was postponed twice due to the pandemic.
Victoria (violin) and Eleni Mavromoustaki (piano) are two Cypriot sisters based in London, virtuoso musicians, recipients of major competition prizes that have performed and broadcast internationally. On Thursday, 1st of September 2022, at Markideio Theatre, the two sisters performed works by J. Brahms, W.A. Mozart and F. Schubert.
Despite the unexpected technical difficulties that arose in the theater, the audience chose to remain in the theater and watched the concert, while the musicians, like real professionals, presented a program that received excellent reviews from the audience. Thank you!
