We’re recovering after celebrating 8 years of Ankali, and just in time to celebrate 1 year of Shella 🌀

We’ll celebrate almost exactly on the one year mark with a surprise b2b open decks raffle this Thursday - more details tomorrow 😉

In light of the recent ceasefire violation in Gaza, we think it’s essential to make our stance about boycotting within the cultural sector clear, as an independent radio, we believe that every voice we amplify reflects our values, we recognize the weight of this responsibility, which is why we have decided to join the boycott of the following venues and organizations: .blank.berlin .berlin & .

Our boycott of these organizations isn’t limited to not supporting them (personally or as a collective), but we have also decided not to host artists who support them, this means that, following this statement, we will not host artists who continue to perform at these spaces or continue to keep recordings from these spaces online.

One of the founding values of Shella was to amplify minority voices and to create a platform that promotes values that we believe in, including an-tr-colonialism, anti-racism, and anti-zionism, & In honor of those values, we think it’s important for us to not support (directly or indirectly) organizations who have acted in direct opposition to said values, and to make our stance clear.

As the summer season approaches and our biweekly Pluto hangouts come to an end, we thought it would be right to bid the season farewell by giving a space to rising diggers next Thursday, April 3rd from 19:00 - 23:00 🌀

If you’ve joined us in Pluto this winter, you know the drill: songs, not tracks. We want emotion, real instruments, anything that makes your heart move more than your body.

To apply, email us ([email protected]) with “Pluto Open Call - YOUR NAME” as the subject. We’re more interested in concept and selection than your technical ability or experience, so all you need to send us is:

-A short paragraph with your idea / concept
-2 to 3 tracks that capture it

Submissions will close on Saturday at midnight, and those selected will be notified by Tuesday, April 1st at 20:00. We hope to hear from you soon!

We’re here to formally introduce you to Youssef and Mariam, aka 3asal wa Tahina. 🌀

Their name comes from a snack—delicious or horrendous depending on who you ask ;). It’s a mix of molasses and tahini, usually eaten with bread.

Mariam and Youssef wanted to create a space to talk about their lived experiences in the Czech Republic—about being Arabs here, navigating daily life, and bringing up topics that resonate with the local diaspora. From politics to bizarre encounters to issues affecting the Arab community in Prague, they felt like nothing like this existed.

With their show on Shella, they wanted Arabs and people from the Global South diaspora to feel seen and relate to what they’re talking about. They wanted listeners to feel like they’re just sitting together in a living room, having unfiltered convos they’d normally have in private.

They’re proud of what they’ve done so far, especially with the great feedback from the people they made this show for. They’re glad they’ve talked about things they find important—taboos like s*x and shame, Syria and the revolution, identity clashes, being third-culture kids, and the history of Arabic music and its many styles. Keep your eyes peeled for more on that 👀

-What does 3asal wa Tahina means to you?

Mariam: “An outlet I never had growing up here that validates my experiences.”

Youssef: “A platform to talk about the topics I always wanted to hear while cooking in the background, especially in moments of feeling alone in this country.”

This month’s IRL sessions in Pluto (free entry!) will take place on the 9th with 3asal wa Tahina, .tohfa ‘s Voices of Resillience, and Syrian Sound Archive. Then we’re back again on the 23rd with s*x & falsafa, sentimental club :3, and Helplessy Hoping - a match made in heaven? We think so 😉
