We’re excited for Otis Mensah’s record release concert with Wooly Aziz!

𝐃𝐚𝐭𝐞: 31st March 2025 • 𝐕𝐞𝐧𝐮𝐞: Schokoladen

𝐅𝐫𝐞𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐲 – 𝐃𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬 𝐰𝐞𝐥𝐜𝐨𝐦𝐞!

𝐎𝐭𝐢𝐬 𝐌𝐞𝐧𝐬𝐚𝐡 is a Berlin-based interdisciplinary artist, poet and musician exploring the aesthetic fabric of language and cadence to evoke ethereal portraits of the body, family and notions of home. Drawing from a rich lineage of Black musicality, Otis’ poetic-sonic practice pulls multidimensional sound and text from archival material and reflections on dreaming and nature.

Following their tenure as the first Poet Laureate of Sheffield, UK, Otis has performed alongside Moor Mother, Benjamin Zephaniah and Little Simz. before the noise my cousin is the debut album from Otis, entirely produced by the intern following a longstanding Berlin-centred collaboration. Exploring notions of youth, its transience and malaise, ‘before the noise’ grapples for a deeper sense of kinship and home as it journeys artistic-tribulation and coming-of-age with dreamlike sonics and daring abstract-rap cadence.

𝐖𝐨𝐨𝐥𝐲 𝐀𝐳𝐢𝐳 .aziz is a solo, progressive soul project by Jannat Sohail from Lahore, Pakistan, also listed in the Alternative Power 100 Music List (2020) for Resilience and Adaptability. Best described as soulful and transcending borders with their atmospheric compositions and lyrical storytelling, Wooly Aziz is composing stories of love, war, and migration – particularly in their newly conceptualized record: Dreaming Diaspora. Aziz also delves into bass selections as her DJ alias AZIEZ, which began with the mentorship practice with Femme Bass Mafia in 2023.

Otis Mensah is a Berlin-based interdisciplinary artist whose work spans across fields of literature and sound, exploring the aesthetic fabric of language and cadence to evoke ethereal portraits of the body, family and notions of the Black church. Drawing inspiration from a rich lineage of sampling as an approach to their poetic-sonic practice, Otis derives musicality and multidimensional text from childhood, dreaming and nature.

Following their tenure as the first Poet Laureate of Sheffield, UK, Otis has had a diverse calibre of experience in contemporary art both as artist and curator; publishing their poetry collection Safe Metamorphosis with Prototype London, debuting at Glastonbury Music Festival, performing alongside the likes of Moor Mother, Benjamin Zephaniah and Little Simz and working with a range of galleries and festivals across Europe.

𝐑𝐞𝐬𝐩𝐚𝐭𝐢 crafts sonic bridges between worlds, weaving together the haunting resonance of Javanese gamelan and algorithmic music composition. His sound palette is filled with stochastic rhythms, the metallic timbre of the gamelan, dense soundscapes, and a large cluster of drones. Whether on the immersive stage of a music theater production or sculpting interactive sound installations for the web, his music pulses with dialectics between tradition and innovation, creating works that resonate across cultural and temporal divides.

𝐤𝐣𝐣𝐚𝐛𝐛𝐞𝐫 is the garbled moniker of Jin Jing, multimedia artist and co-founder of AN(8)X. Pervaded by syncopated rhythms, dimensional changes, visceral sounds and soul-gripping melodic elements, her selections are often toying with unfathomable feelings and tensions. Like an infernal machine devoted to surpassing limits and mutates with each newly unveiled musical landscape, kjjabber reinforces layers of perception and plays with short attention spans behind the decks, constantly hinting at the beginnings of an enchanting climax that never arrives, to keep the listener under control and better drown them at will.

𝐌𝐮𝐦𝐮 is a Jakarta-born, Berlin-based DJ and 1 of 3 Kretekklang co-founders, whose deep passion for industrial sounds and hard-hitting percussion has shaped his ever evolving love for music.

🤍 DECOLONOIZE PRESENTS 🤍 MERANGKAK - presentation by Moyann Ayu Larasati .unbathe

In Bahasa Indonesia, merangkak means to crawl. In this context, it embodies the state of being in-between, a transitional process - as one learns to walk or is no longer able to.
We face uncertainty on a daily basis, but how is the uncertainty caused by authoritative power affecting us as humans? Is the system we live in coming from a place of humanity?
This presentation will show drafts and works of Moyann Larasati, capturing feelings of uncertainty, detachment and hope.

About the artist:
Indonesian-based interdisciplinary artist Moyann Ayu Larasati, or Mojan Larasati, has been honing her skills for music and visual art. Moyann has been producing music since 2014 and initiated a fuzzy post-punk band, Bananach. They also dig into illustration and explore many mediums for their visual works, from paper to canvas to even skin as a tattoo. As an artist, Moyann’s works are mostly focused on sociopolitics and humanitarian issues; their works "define complex emotions, the dark side of humanity, and sensitivity, as well as a political statement," they said.
