📋FILM SCREENING

We invite you to a screening of the film Palcorecore by Dana Dawud at the DECOLONOIZE MiniFest.

Palcorecore, single channel video (2023)
Dana Dawud’s Palcorecore (Palestine) is a hypnotic fusion of dance, archival footage, and internet-circulated videos that collapse past and present into a visceral portrait of Palestinian life. Opening with The Lovers Songs Band and excerpts from Jenin, Jenin (2003), the film assembles fleeting yet powerful images: flag-waving horseback riders, families at the beach, teenagers dancing in flames, and acts of resistance against occupation. Dawud’s deadpan narration—“I witness you witness me, we are martyrs together”—pulls the viewer into a shared act of witnessing. Through rhythmic disorder and movement, the film captures the resilience, rebellion, and everyday joys of Palestinian existence, focusing particularly on youth and women in their defiant assertion of life.

The film was commissioned by Onty and OnMyComputer for the CoreCore symposium which took place in New York, November 2023.

Written and edited by Dana Dawud
Sound Design by Zein Majali

📋FILM SCREENING

Join us for a screening of Empress by at the DECOLONOIZE MiniFest.

Empress (2025) is an intimate exploration of a Sydney-based Asian artist’s journey to create and celebrate q***r spaces through the power of their art.

Dyan Tai (he/they) a self-described Gaysian Empress of Sydney mentors young q***r artists and people of colour, through their Worship Q***r Collective guiding them through creative and personal journeys. One evening, while applying makeup and geMng into drag at Dyan’s apartment, Dyan shares stories about growing up q***r in Malaysia and finding community in Sydney. As Dyan and Emma, a choreographer and close collaborator, rehearse for a VIVID Sydney performance at Red RaSler Theatre, they discuss the show’s concept. Together, they build a narrative that reflects their experiences navigating new environments and complex identities. The performance becomes a personal reflection of their journeys and challenges. On the night of the show, Dyan and Emma stand backstage, nervous but ready. Dyan’s mother is in the audience, adding extra weight to the moment. The performance is powerful, climaxing in a raw reenactment of a pivotal life crisis. AVerward, Dyan reflects on the importance of creating space for q***r artists and people of colour, knowing their work is far from over.

About the book and author (in German)
PUNK as F*CK - Die Szene aus FLINTA-Perspektive
