Despite the „Urban Age,“ half of the global population lives in rural areas essential for food, water, energy, and biodiversity. To address climate change, we need a holistic approach that integrates urban and rural development, focusing on circular economies and equitable resource distribution.
The Urban-Rural Assembly project, active since 2019, unites a multidisciplinary Sino-German team to study socio-spatial transformations in China’s Zhejiang Province. This closing conference, organised by @habitatunit, will present key findings and discuss strategies for sustainable urban-rural development with insights from international experts.

AWARD CEREMONY & OPENING | AW Architect of the Year 2024
The new underground Stuttgart Main Station is coming to Berlin this summer. In a spectacular 360° photo installation at Aedes, christoph ingenhoven architects are presenting the once-in-a-century project – on the occasion of Christoph Ingenhoven being honoured as the AW Architect of the Year 2024. In the past four decades Christoph Ingenhoven and his team have frequently pushed the limits of construction technology for the benefit of ecology: both in Germany and internationally. With the new building for the RWE AG in Essen, the first high-rise with a naturally ventilated double façade was erected in 1996. High-rise projects that received multiple awards were completed in Sydney in 2011, Singapore in 2018 and Tokyo in 2021. On the Kö-Bogen II in Düsseldorf, Europe’s biggest green building shell has been growing since 2022. In 2026, when the Stuttgart Main Station goes into operation, it expands the portfolio to include a unique archetype that defines the typology of the railway station in the city centre completely anew: original, ecological and supergreen.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
The Catalan architectural scene has changed since the economic crisis in Spain of 2008. Despite ongoing challenges, a new generation of architects has successfully established itself in Barcelona in recent years – the Catalan metropolis is now a hotbed of forward-thinking architecture and urban planning. Young, independent practices are exploring site-specific formal languages and construction techniques in innovative ways, often tackling diverse tasks with collaborative strategies. Panorama Barcelona, curated by POST LIKE, presents projects by 15 architectural studios established in Barcelona in the last ten years and one special guest from Berlin. Through a collection of models, the exhibition is not only dedicated to different typologies. It also reflects the shift from a textual to a visual culture in the current global architectural discourse, brought about by new image technologies and communication media.

ABOUT THE EXHIBITION
The architect, artist and sociologist Elizabeth de Portzamparc has developed a philosophy she calls New Architecture. It is based on the idea that architecture has to enhance every interaction with the elements of its environment – both physical and cultural. The exhibition NEXUS explains this philosophy and presents adaptive methods Elizabeth de Portzamparc and her team of the Paris-based studio use to improve places and ecosystems, and to alter them according to new uses. The visitors of the exhibition are invited to explore the different methods and principles through 15 projects, including the internationally known Musée de la Romanité in Nîmes, the vertical and vibrant neighbourhood Citadelles in Villejuif, the innovation and science centres in Biot and in Shanghai, the bioclimatic university library Humathèque in Aubervilliers as well as the stations for the Bordeaux Tramway.
