So pleased to welcome PITCH SHIFTING to erweitert in the REH on the 12th Nov!

Next Tuesday at the REH. Edith Steyer and Dr. Nexus work in the broad field of experimental improvisation. The intensive exchange of sometimes prepared saxophone and sometimes electronically processed voice can lead to surprising sound moments, but also to explosive outbursts that originate from noise music. The two musicians are part of the Berlin Echt-zeit music scene and play together in Dr. Nexus' Ultimate Bruital Orchestra.

One to be acknowledged, erweitert in der REH closes the 2024 season with this November edition. Thanks to Sorora e.V and our funders, we were able to ‘erweitern’ our activities to invite more artists, and meet a lot of new and lovely faces in the audience! Now for this last edition we want to celebrate the team that made this all possible: Sanja Star who has crafted the fantastic flyers each month, performs as Pitch Shifting with Grugr Savic. Perhaps a mini Bruital Orchestra for your ears with the duo Edith Steyer and Dr. Nexus. And lastly your hosts of erweitert in der REH Ligia Liberatori and Isabel Rößler perform with Marie Takahashi on Viola!

RaumErweiterungsHalle (REH) is a charming relic of the times, built in the 1960’s DDR as an expandable / contractible multipurpose room, it breathes in a new wind every time it finds an application. An ice cream parlor, a gallery, and even a Kindergarten were some of its applications. The current enactment is a showroom for upcycled furniture, creations of Ulf Geyersbach, who kindly opened the doors for us to host the events. We are especially pleased with the acoustics of the distinctive architecture, and curate a concert series for this accordion house, featuring Berlin’s fluid Improv scene with a focus on chamber musical approaches. The interference and play with the features of the room gives music space to expand freely. Join us for the next ‘erweitert in der REH’ to open up your ears to the sounds of extended techniques and non-comformotive sounds.

Erweitert in der REH is an initiative led by Ligia Liberatori and Isabel Rößler in partnership with Sorora e.V. ( / https://sorora.org/ ) and Ulf Geyersbach / (https://geyersbach.com/). It is funded by the Berlin Senate Department for Culture and Europe () under the 'Women in Jazz 2024' project funding scheme. We thank our partners for their support!

Carolina Boettner is a transdisciplinary artist based in Berlin, whose work explores the boundaries between traditional practices and new media. Her art is rooted in collaboration across disciplines, aiming to create innovative, experimental experiences.

Xueh Magrini Troll, aka Xuehka was born in Bogotá, Colombia and belongs to the third generation of female artists in her family. Drawing is her way of understanding the world around her and incidentally, discovering herself.

Cellist Hui-Chun Lin is an active member of Berlin’s improvised music scene, to which she contributes regularly as a performer and curator of improvised chamber music events. As a performer, composer, she has developed an original improvisational style characterized by a large sound range, dramatic intensity, and a unique musical grammar.

Ada Rave (1974, Comodoro Rivadavia), is an Argentinian saxophonist, improviser and composer. Ada’s instrumental approach is based on research into a wide variety of techniques, conventional and unorthodox, which allow her to create a highly personal narrative in real time composition.

Ligia Liberatori a singer, improviser, performer, composer and clowness. Her specialities are the extended techniques, and the relationship between music and movement. Besides the currently experimental and extended vocal techniques, like multiphonics, circular singing, frys, ululation, inhales an glottal clicks, She had developed special techniques like flaggiolets, high multiphonics and chord singing.

Elisabetta Lanfredini is a singer, sound artist, performer, vocal coach and researcher; born in Siena-Italy, currently based in Berlin. Their origins in Afro-American, jazz and folk music, ethnomusicology, and profound experience in the experimental theater, lead to a style of modern storytelling that includes both improvised and traditional music.

Rodrigues and Rodrigues will perform at the upcoiming erweitert in der REH! Tuesday, 15th Oct at Raumerweiterungshalle📍

Ernesto Rodrigues, Viola
Guilherme Rodrigues, Cello

Guilherme Rodrigues is a cellist, improviser, sound explorer and composer from Lisboa, Portugal. With an intuitive approach to improvisation and exploration of the timbres, using both classical and extensive techniques, his music is exciting, polyrhythmic and full of contrasts. His work probes the physicality of the space in which listening occurs. His music, comprising both acoustic and electro-acoustic works, has been described as delicate, intense, focused and physical.

Ernesto Rodrigues has been playing the violin for 40 years and in that time has played all genres of music ranging from contemporary music to free jazz and free improvisation, live and in the studio. The relationship with his instruments is focused in sonic and textural elements as well as the use of extended techniques. Electronic music was an early influence on his approach to violin playing, which challenges traditional romantic concepts of the violin and viola through use of preparations and micro tuning.

Performing at the REH, September 3rd.

Victoria Alexandrova - Sruti Box, Table top violin
Lucio Capece - Sruti Box, Khene.

Victoria Alexandrova is a Berlin-based artist with a diverse background in visual arts, collaborates with renowned experimental musician Lucio Capece in a performance featuring the interplay of Shruti boxes, Khene, and a tabletop violin. Capece, known for his innovative use of sound and space, complements Victoria's explorations with his mastery of wind instruments. Together, they create an immersive auditory experience that reflects their shared interest in the intersection of tradition and modernity.

Lucio Capece is an Argentinian musician based in Berlin since 2004. Active since the late 90 ́s as an Improviser-New Music performer, he dedicates since 2010 to offer works focused in the Perception experience, that he performs mainly in solo and in the context of occasional collaborations based in the same interest. He composes his own pieces that may include improvisation and different ways of writing. He uses tools like Flying Speakers hanging from Helium Balloons moved by propellers, Speakers as Pendulums, Analog synthesiser, Sine Waves and Noise Generators, Drum Machines, Ultra- Violet Lights, Sensors, Khene, as much as the instruments that he has played for 25 years: Bass Clarinet and Soprano and Slide Saxophone. In the last 5 years Capece has developed projects in the context of what he considers a Phenomenology of Music making, that intends to offer music that wonders in what makes of music something enjoyable only as music can be. In this context he has developed several bands like Rahma Quartet, FS5 Quintet, Lost Jockey trio and duos with Katie Porter, Monika Zyla and Victoria Alexandrova.
Beyond instrumentation and tools, the main intention is to focus in the physical-social-spatial human experience.
