Summerjam Festival - since 1986

Jedes Jahr am ersten Wochenende im Juli treffen sich verschiedene Generationen Musikliebhaber vor und auf der Bühne, um jene einzigartige Atmosphäre entstehen zu lassen, die das Festival weltweit bekannt und beliebt gemacht hat. Angefangen hat alles im Jahr 1986 auf der Freilichtbühne an der berühmten Loreley, u.a. mit den Reggae-Legenden Dennis Brown, Black Uhuru und The Wailers. Sieben Jahre und viele Highlights später wanderte das stetig wachsende Festival aus Kapazitätsgründen auf einen ehemaligen Flugplatz bei Wildenrath. Im Jahr 1996 – vor mittlerweile über 20 Jahren – fand das Summerjam Festival schließlich seine neue Heimat am beliebten Fühlinger See in Köln, wohin es seitdem Jahr für Jahr mehr als 30 000 Musik-Fans anlockt. Das an eine Karibikinsel erinnernde Areal wurde von den Besuchern inzwischen liebevoll in "Cologne Bay" umbenannt.

War das Summerjam Festival in den ersten Jahren noch ein reines Reggae Festival, entwickelte sich das Spektrum über die Jahre mit der Musik weiter und nahm vielerlei Einflüsse auf. Und während das Lineup durch unterschiedliche Künstler und jahresaktuelle Trends angereichert wird, kann jedes Jahr auf den zwei Hauptbühnen und Nebenschauplätzen das gesamte Wochenende ohne Unterbrechung Reggae Sound in all seinen Spielformen erlebt werden.

Ein Auftritt auf dem Summerjam ist auch für die bekanntesten Künstler ein Highlight in ihrem Kalender. Und schon für manch aufkommenden Star war der Name im Lineup ein Push für eine internationale Karriere. Und genau wie die Künstler selbst, begeistern sich auch unzählige Fans an diesem Wochenende im Juli für die Musik und das einzigartige Feeling: It's Summerjam!
