Apply now! Master's Degree 2025/26 🎵

The International Ensemble Modern Academy (IEMA) and the University for Music and Performing Arts Frankfurt (HfMDK) offer a joint one-year master course in Contemporary Music open to musicians (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, horn, trumpet, trombone, piano, percussion, violin, viola, violoncello, double bass), composers, conductors and sound designers.

The course will run from 1. October 2025 to 30. September 2026.

👀 Behind the scenes 🎵 Hier sind einige Eindrücke aus den intensiven Probearbeiten und Workshops von ›epoche_f international 2024‹. Zusammen mit den IEMA-Dozent*innen Johannes Schwarz, Valentín Garvie, Hermann Kretzschmar, Rainer Römer, Megumi Kasakawa, Michael Maria Kasper und dem Dirigenten Martin Brauß studieren die jungen Preisträger*innen von ›Jugend musiziert‹ Werke von u.a. John Adams, Anton Webern, František Chaloupka, Cornelius Cardew und Gerardo Gandini ein.

Einen konzertanten Abschluss findet der Meisterkurs an zwei Abenden zum Ende dieser Woche.

Five young ensembles worked over a week with Ensemble Modern and performed works from the 20th and 21st centuries on two concert evenings after intensive rehearsals. We would like to thank the participating ensembles for the exciting time and the fruitful exchange.

Nach fast einem Jahr intensiven Studierens und Probens unter Anleitung der Mitglieder des und zahlreicher Gastdozent*innen im Masterstudiengang ›Contemporary Music Performance‹ in Kooperation mit der Hochschule für Musik und Darstellende Kunst Frankfurt präsentiert das IEMA-Ensemble 2023/24 in insgesamt drei Konzerten in der HfMDK und bei den NAXOS Hallenkonzerte im Produktionshaus NAXOS »Klassiker« mit und ohne Elektronik sowie neueste Werke.

Musikalische Interventionen beim ›Rush Hour‹ Kulturfestival 🎶

Im Anbau der Deutschen Ensemble Akademie war es heute für Publikum möglich, dem IEMA-Ensemble 2023/24 bei der Arbeit zuzuhören und zuzusehen. Nach einer Einführung von Christiane Engelbrecht, der Geschäftsführerin der IEMA, präsentierten die Stipentiat*innen Stockhausens ›Kurzwellen‹ und gingen danach mit Tutor und Ensemble Modern Mitglied Dietmar Wiesner ins Coaching.

Das ›Rush Hour‹ Kulturfestival ist eine Initiative der Stiftung.

Wir führen Karlheinz Stockhausens ›Kurzwellen‹ am 27. September im ZKM - Zentrum für Kunst und Medien Karlsruhe auf, neben Werken von Wolfgang Rihm, Ricardo Eizirik und Stephan Winkler.

Concert Teaser! 🎵Today we are rehearsing for the ›Gaudeamus Festival 2024‹ and are currently working on the piece ›this‹ (2024) by Teoniki Rożynek (.rozynek), which we will premiere alongside works by Filippo Lepre (), Sunghyun Lee and Po-Chien Liu () on 06.09 in Utrecht.

On September 7, our musicians will give another concert as part of the festival with works by James Tenney and Yixie Shen (.shen)

Both concerts will be conducted by Fernando Palomeque () and Michael Wendeberg (only on 06.09)
