LiebertA - Weltschal
Ein Projekt des Vereins Made auf Veddel

Gemeinsam mit der Stadt Hamburg setzte der gemeinnützige Verein Made auf Veddel e.V. ein klares Zeichen f̈ür Weltoffenheit und zeigt Flagge: Am Hamburger Rathaus wurden alle Flaggen dieser Welt künstlerisch inszeniert und anschließend auf dem Hamburger Rathausplatz zu einem überdimensionalen
Weltschal verwoben. November 2015 fand eine besondere Inszenierung rund um das Hamburger Rathaus statt - ein Signal für Weltoffenheit, Vielfalt und Zusammenhalt. Dafür stricken und häkelten Freiwillige aus der ganzen Welt die Flaggen aller Nationen in einer Größe von 1,0 X 1,5 Meter. Auch die Damen von Made auf Veddel strickten mit. Um das Projekt realisieren zu können, wurden für jede Flagge Patenschaften an Privatpersonen, Unternehmen, Stiftungen und Konsulate vergeben. Eine Patenschaft wird jeweils mit 1.000 Euro berechnet, wobei ein großer Teil als Spende an das Integrationsprojekt Made auf Veddel fließt. Patenschaften wurden unter anderem bereits von renommierten Hamburger Unternehmen wie Aurubis, der ostfriesischen Teegesellschaft, den Gebrüder Heinemann, sowie von der Credit Suisse übernommen. Die Inszenierung am Hamburger Rathaus, mit dem geschichtsträchtigen Folgetag, unterteilte sich in drei Akte. Zuerst wurden alle Flaggen einzeln aus den Fenstern des Rathauses gehängt. Dieses situationistische Werk existierte für ca. 30 Minuten. Anschließend wurden die Flaggen mit musikalischer Begleitung in einer aufwendigen Choreographie durch Klettverschlüsse miteinander verbunden. Im letzten Akt mündete die Choreographie in der Niederlegung des Schals als LiebertA-Zeichen, welches eigens für dieses Projekt entwickelt wurde. Es steht symbolisch für Liebe und Freiheit. Unter dem Namen LiebertA werden mit den Spenden, die über den Weltschal generiert werden, unterschiedliche Integrationsprojekte realisiert. Das Projekt wird vom Senat und der Bürgerschaft der Freien und Hansestadt Hamburg unterstützt und wird seit der Inszenierung in Hamburg stetig um internationale Auftritte erweitert. Der Weltschal kann als Zeichen für Demokratie, Freiheit und Weltoffenheit für Veranstaltungen genutzt werden. Weltschal - A socio-cultural Artwork
A project of the non-profit organization Made auf Veddel and a symbol of open-mindedness
Together with the City of Hamburg, the non-profit organization Made auf Veddel has created a unique and extraordinary symbol for open-mindedness, tolerance and democracy. The national flags of all the countries in the world were put together in an artistic creation of an immense Weltschal (world shawl). This project is a powerful representation of integration, democracy, and solidarity, and can be used in various ways by institutions and organizations to work towards these objectives. On the 8th of November in 2015 the Weltschal was assembled for the first time. The presentation was divided into three acts. As step one, the flags were lined up on the balcony of Hamburg’s city hall as a temporary and exceptional piece of art for about 30 minutes. Afterwards the flags, connected by velcro, were lowered down to the ground of the town hall square. In a second act the huge shawl, carried by hundreds of volunteers, formed the LiebertA sign. The sign was specially designed for this project by German designer Sibilla Pavenstedt and symbolizes love and freedom. The third act was marked by over a thousand people accompanying the bearers of the Weltschal to the Alster River and releasing the shawl onto a boat to start its journey around the world. Professional singers performed a medley of choral music as a send-off. As a project by Made auf Veddel the Weltschal is to be seen as a socio-cultural artwork that has its origin in Hamburg, yet is not bound by the borders of the city. The Weltschal is a comprehensive synonym for diversity, inclusion and freedom. Made auf Veddel will continue to show how migration, equal opportunities, and integration are possible. The wide range of support in Hamburg from small and large companies, private institutions, and locals during the realization of the project has exceeded all expectation. With this enthusiasm we are now encountering new acquaintances and accomplices all over the world. The money generated through rent and licenses will be used to support integrative projects. This project is being supported by the Senate and the Hamburg Parliament. This support secures a great presence in local and nationwide media alike. Project initiator Sibilla Pavenstedt is connected to international art and design forums, which raises awareness and media attention on an international basis. In order to expand this project each flag can be awarded with up to four sponsorships. It is therefore possible for a private sponsor, a company, an organization and the consular office to invest in the same flag. The amount for a sponsorship is a minimum of 1.000€. Half of that amount is used to orchestrate the production process and the other half is pure donation. The money goes to the non-profit organization Made auf Veddel and will be used to initiate different projects that focus on cultural integration. In 2017 Made auf Veddel will undertake a project in Wilhelmsburg, an area in Hamburg with over 3.000 refugees, to provide them with opportunities to participate in language classes, be creative, and to learn about the prospects they have. Each flag is 1x1.5 meters and is handmade by one of the women who work with Made auf Veddel – refugees and volunteers all over the world. The producers use various textile techniques such as knitting, crocheting or sewing. So in this huge project, every flag is a unique and extraordinary piece of art.
