🎈Events are all about finding the right balance between excitement and calmer experiences that bring aliveness and meaning to those involved.

Far too often, we focus only on the exciting parts of the event and overdo it to the point that exhausts the guests or even diminishes the value of an event.

From volunteering for years in a Steiner school in London, I learned that life is a constant flow between going outwards and inwards. Activities that create excitement are followed by calming, inner-looking actions.

It’s cyclical.

It’s natural.

It’s wholesome.

It’s meaningful.

I believe event planning should follow nature’s laws.

I get it that it is hard when we go so much against the natural flow. It’s just as hard as getting the balance right when it comes to raising a teen. It comes with many trials and tribulations. But gosh, it’s worth all the pain and sweat.

🎈 Let's talk sustainability.

The word "sustainable" is added willy-nilly to all sorts of things, and I always wonder if they actually did something about it.

Meghna Nijhawan kindly asked me about my thoughts on sustainability in one of my posts this week, and in mysterious ways, on the same day, Maria Forko asked me to connect with her on LinkedIn.

And guess what? She is an expert in helping event planners organize sustainable events, mainly in Austria and Germany, but she can work with anyone in the EU. More info about her company White Elephant Events.

Here are the short highlights of our conversation:

📄 to get the Eco Label (which can be granted to anyone in the EU), companies need to check quite a few things off a 15-sided PDF-long list. This is serious business.

💰 To become sustainable is initially more expensive but cheaper for companies in the long run.

🔧 There are no fixed templates to follow, so her work is personalized.

💡 One step that has a massive, tangible effect on sustainability and is easier to implement is catering with vegan or vegetarian locally sourced food and ingredients. This simple change can make a significant difference.

🗣 Honest conversations are not just a step but the first crucial step. Admitting what can be done and what can't be done at this moment is important. It's a responsibility we all share.

🇩🇰 Denmark and other Scandinavian countries have their eco-label organization: Nordic Swan Ecolabel.

🌱 We have a long way to go, but seeds are planted.

Here is the short story of my four-year-old newsletter.

🎈It was born as a blog post-type email in which I promoted local artists, facilitators, and organisations out of my free will.

🎈Then I started doing my events, so I was talking about them and having conversations with the growing community.

🎈 It was also the playground for my curious soul, so I shared more of my experiences with a diverse international community of speakers, healers, facilitators and artists.

🎈 Relocating to Copenhagen recently, my newsletters are changing into a cocktail of personal stories sprinkled with alternative, inspiring things and people I experience.

🎈 Right now, I am not promoting my events in my emails as I no longer do them. As a result, my mailing list is not growing, but it has had the highest opening rate since the beginning of 2020, so I must do something good.

I asked my subscribers to occasionally share my emails with curious souls to keep these stories free and full of wonder.

If you are curious about this, you can find a link in my bio, and I will see you on the other side.

Happy Easter for everyone who celebrates this moment.

Easter is about letting go while holding on to the rituals I love and cherish. For me the whole Easter story is about shedding parts of ourselves and transformation into something else.

I am just smack in the middle of this process.

Wish you all a gentle, nourishing, resurrection of your selves.

I am away to my home town, celebrating my mum’s birthday this week. I think my love for social events started with family birthdays. I am grateful for my family for that.

I loved them since I was a kid and I still do.

Seeing people being loved, letting themselves loved, showing love towards the guests. It’s always been about love for me. Yep, I get very mushy ☺️ when I talk about birthdays.

💚

This weeks celebrations moved in different parts so of course I had to travel with a crystal champagne glass in the car 🤣

⭐️ New Blog Post - on caring for every one part of the event is a must for an event planner, even if it’s not explicitly required.

Here is a teaser:

“ Story-time - we are all going to die one day, and in the big scheme of things, this moment is just a blip, and we shouldn’t stress too much about. “

I started my Danish language course at this week. I am so ready to move on from just saying puha 😅
It’s going to be a hell of a ride though, even if I know four other languages already.

1920’s dinner party for my birthday last night. There is something about the frivolity and outrageous life style that I find inspiring from that era.

It’s probably related to growing up in less frivolous times like communism and though they were fun times plenty to go around there were not glamorous.

Anyways, it was such fun to dress up. I love a man in bow tie outfit 🔥 I just wish when you hire a costume from the 1920’s would come with a maid, bartender and staff to take care of the other bits 🤣

This is what 46 looks like. Which I am going to be tomorrow. It’s proper turbulent, life changing, midlife crisis. Yes, let’s call it for what it is. It is a crisis. Things don’t work like they used to be. You are pushed to grow and develop new things which is blooming hard when your internal chemistry is having a rave 😜 It’s mental.

And it is good and natural to go through crisis. I don’t want to make it less or more. I just want to acknowledge it for what it is.

I am fed up with those telling us that is not a crisis, is an opportunity, it’s pure joy and a walk in the park and it’s all positive. It’s not. It’s everything put together. Joy, sadness, anger, power, tiredness and all the other emotions.

Happy to receive diamonds, messages, love, funny memes on midlife and a proper snow shovel for my birthday. So if you got any of these send them my way. I got my priorities sorted 😁

I am going to be off line for this week as the week four of the Artist Way requires. I postponed this week for a while now so I am getting annoyed with myself.
See you in a week time.

I have a teen and a dog to watch over me 🤣

Who I am...

I am a beautiful mongrel of a human. There is Hungarian, Romanian and a sprinkling of Croatian culture mushed up inside me. I left my home country when I was 22 years old and settled in London. I then married an academic Danish man, that taught me how to be punctual (almost) and that love is freedom. Our daughter is the only English citizen in the house. She is one of my most forgiving teachers, she is always challenging my ideas of how things should be.

I am curious about what it means to be human and I have a passion for sharing my experiences. Why do I like driving but hate when my husband drives? Is this a pattern that I learned many moons ago, is it just me being a control freak, and should I embrace that part of me? For me, having a puppy, learning something new about myself or just having a fire in the garden with shamanic drumming and a song, it is an event. Events are those experiences that make me grow, laugh and connect. It could be as simple as our weekly Tarot Nights on zoom with my friends or the bigger parties I love organising. Everything can be an event, even the most ordinary moments in our life, intense, authentic and rich.

My blog is about sharing my experiences with different Masters. I call them Masters because their knowledge is not only rooted in data, expertise or understanding; it is also coming from something within that is beyond all that. I cherish and nourish connections with each one of them. I don't get paid for writing about them. I only hope that by reading them you will get inspired. If you enjoy my blog, please share it with others.

I also write about local people and their shops. I know support for local businesses it's crucial more than ever. And if you are not a part of Greenwich London, look around and find your local shop and enjoy it.
