It all started with a movie about Burlesque. ‘It spoke to me and it gave me an idea’ - Anne, Owner of Sweet Burlesque. The Movie Burlesque (actors: Christina Aquilera & Cher) is about finding yourself, gain independency, live your life, dance, glamour and the secret behind Burlesque. The genre has been around for centuries but yet people are still in doubt when it comes to Burlesque. ‘What is it?’, ‘Is it like stripping?’ and so on.
Burlesque is fun, extreme, glamorous, satire, comical and it’s all for you! When Sweet Burlesque was founded we all had one thing in common - and that was that is has to be fun. So we started performing for free to smaller parties. As the years went by, we started to get more and more serious with the genre and started to study the art of Burlesque. We found out that all this time there had been a secret society within the burlesque genre and that Copenhagen actually was a place to dance Burlesque. We started expanding and evolving our concept and that is what brought us til now. We want to spread out the word and our concept and get Burlesque out in the open so people know what it is and start a new trend cause this is to good to be hidden. Women should feel like women and we should not feel embarrassed or ashamed of our bodies but embrace them and be filled with positive energy and bodypositivisme and not anything else. We started as amateur dancers and now we are specialized and professional with the Burlesque genre and we would love to introduce this to you.
