EN.- Francisco Durini Cáceres, was an architect of Italian-Swiss descent, creator of innumerable projects, which can be seen, not only in the Ecuadorian capital, but throughout Central and South America, Francisco Durini became one of the greatest exponents of the architecture of the early twentieth century in Ecuador, gaining great popularity among the wealthy classes and public works. Among his most important works are; the Palace of the Old Military Circle, the Casa Saenz Merino (now Casona D'Alameda), monument to the heroes of the Independent located in the Plaza Grande, among others. Built in 1910, the project of the Casa Saenz Merino (now Casona D'Alameda) was granted to Francisco Durini for the upper class who wished to escape from the Historical Center. The house comprises two interiors. Durini took advantage of the privileged location of the property in front of the park, to design one of the main spaces of the project, the Balcony with 5 majestic semicircular arches, the loggia of the second floor, which has an extreme relationship with the spaces of honor, adjoining to the rooms surrounding the central patio, as is customary in the constructions of the Historical Center. For the finishes, Dr. Antonio Saenz ordered to decorate with painted French brass, cement tiles and wood in the living rooms and bedrooms.
