🎷🥁 is a Swedish duo consisting of Malin and Karolina Almgren. From a very young age, the sisters began making music together, and their band has now been active for more than 20 years.

📀 Their music can be described as colorful and groovy, as well as poetic and vulnerable. New and full of personality. There’s a natural musicality in this duo, and they bring their unique touch to everything they create. They focus on strong melodies and rhythms, and as a listener, you can prepare to be amazed by the variety of sounds and styles they offer. Their music is modern and fresh, yet never overly complicated. The name Sisters of Invention fits them perfectly, as they are constantly inventing new ways to work with music.

🔘 Over the years, Sisters of Invention have collaborated with numerous Swedish musicians, including Nils Landgren, Rigmor Gustafsson, Ida Sand, Jonas Kullhammar, and Jacob Karlzon. They have also led various projects, such as Dubbelduon, and composed music for big bands, jazz ensembles, and duos.

🎷 Swedish saxophonist and composer has distinguished himself in the jazz scene, earning acclaim for his performances at notable venues and festivals, including the Copenhagen Jazz Festival and Ronnie Scotts.

📀 Bennich’s music is characterized by its melodic depth and a distinctive Nordic touch. He combines traditional melodies with American jazz harmonies and modern jazz innovation, making his work a narrative of global jazz exploration. By integrating these influences, Bennich crafts a sound that is both reflective and ground-breaking, affirming his status as an innovative force within the jazz community.

🔘 Bennich leads his quartet, with on piano, .sjodell on bass and on drums, blending various musical influences from classical-jazz to global rhythms, signalling a new era in jazz.

🟢 I AM ABROAD🟢

🫱🏻‍🫲🏼 The new European project led by designed to strengthen the networks of improvised music within the European musical ecosystem, has selected nine free improvisation artists from Barcelona, Gothenburg, and Vienna.

🎹 In November 2024, three sessions of improvisation and co-creation were held at in Barcelona, Das WERK Wien in Vienna, and Musikens Hus and Brötz in Gothenburg. More than 80 improvisers gathered at these venues to share their creativity and explore the internationalization of their artistic proposals, an opportunity made possible by the project.

🎷 The selected artists performed at the Kick Jazz Festival (Vienna) in 2024, and will now take part in JAZZ I AM 2025. They will conclude the cycle with a performance in Gothenburg in September of this year.

Showcase 🟢 NAUSYQA 🟢

🎺 Inspired by the adventurous spirit of Hayao Miyazaki’s Nausicaä of the Valley of the Wind, ‘s sound world blends post-rock-influenced atmospheres with fierce drum & bass grooves, creating dreamy and edgy soundscapes where the quintet find the freedom to improvise.

〰️ Acoustic and electronic, textures inspired by Steve Reich and producers such as Floating points, soaring melodies inspired by folk… the band’s unique sound takes listeners on a journey with every performance.

✨ Last weekend, we kicked off the I am abroad project with an unforgettable premiere at Kick Jazz Festival! 🎶 Musicians from Barcelona, Amsterdam, and Gothenburg came together for the first time, creating pure magic on stage through improvisation. The chemistry was electric, and we couldn’t be happier with how it turned out—it was a total success! 🙌

We can’t wait to bring them back home to light up our festival stages again. Stay tuned! 🎷🎻🌍

Shocase 🟢SHOWCASE🟢

🎹 Lucia Fumero trained as a pianist in Barcelona and Rotterdam. After releasing her debut album as a trio with original compositions, ‘Universo Normal’, she consolidated her artistic project with an extensive concert tour, performing at festivals such as the Athens Jazz Festival, Jazzaldía, Getxo Jazz Festival, and Madrid Jazz Festival, among others. With her unique and original piano performance and composition, she won the 1st Prize at Juventudes Musicales de España and the Best Emerging Band Award from Jazz España.

📀 ‘Folklore’ is her new project, which stems from a process of exploration and research into her own musical roots and life influences. The foundation of her universe is rooted in folklore, enriched by her background in classical and jazz music. Interested in both songs with lyrics and instrumental music, .fumero expresses herself with rhythms marked by charisma and a unique personality.

🎸KiwKiwKiwKiwKiwKiwKiw: onomatopoeia for your favourite jazz, e-jazz, a genre that fuses jazz, funk and hip-hop with electronic music.

〰️ .trio are Pau, Artur and Ferran, who appeared around 2021 in the Bermuda triangle formed by Artés, Sabadell and Barcelona. This triangle has now moved to the USA, where the three members are based today and study at the of Music in Boston and the New School in NYC.

🎛️ It was always clear from the beginning that they wanted the fourth member of the band to be the computer, giving them the power to move seamlessly between the richness and the essence of improvised music.

💿 Kiw’s first album, ‘It’s Not About Me’ brings us seven slow-cooked e-jazz tracks that move between improvisation, introspection and unbridled passion.

🎹 , is a musician and composer based in Barcelona who, at just 22 years old, already has a solid career in music.

〰️ He plays in several bands, organizes the solidarity-driven , and creates his own instrumental music. His style flirts with jazz at times but often defies labels, blending electronic and organic sounds to explore universal themes like death, anguish, and love. 🎶✨

💿 His second album, Time and Again, is a deep dive into the world of electronica, capturing the complexity of time, nostalgia, and family. With evocative melodies, it takes listeners on an emotional journey—exploring how memories intertwine with the present and how time transforms us all. ⏳💫

Showcase 🟢 CARMEN VELA🟢

🪈 is a flautist, clarinettist and composer from Madrid. En continuo is her second album, a powerful and timely project. Music that tells cosmopolitan stories through the harmonies of jazz, urban music that blends perfectly with Carmen Vela’s quartet, creating its own sonority that weaves its way between punchy, forceful sounds and the subtle texture of woodwind. She creates poetic melodies that play with different rhythms to create a lively music.

〰️ En continuo is a concept in movement. Evolution, fusion, exploration and enjoyment come together in a contemporary jazz setting but with the occasional nod to swing and classical Latin.

⚡️We’re excited to share that the recent tour with austrian trio other:M:other was a huge success!

🫱🏻‍🫲🏼This tour —a collaborative project between Jazz I am and co-programmers , , and , and co-producers and — brought the energy of experimental jazz and rhythm-driven beats to our Catalonian stages, pushing the boundaries of genre and thrilling fans along the way.

🥁The Austrian trio .m.other , formed by Judith Schwarz, .dillier and , aims to create a rhythmic symbiosis of sound. Acoustic and electronic sounds blend seamlessly, forming percussive networks of impulses that draw from both experimental music and rhythm-based club music. With unconventional instrumentation, extended playing techniques, and a free improvisational approach, they push the boundaries of musical genres and excel at translating their unique sonic language across a wide range of stages, concert formats, and stylistic contexts.

💫From Jazz Cava Vic to Sala Torin Olot and FiraB Mallorca, each performance showcased the trio’s mesmerizing fusion of acoustic and electronic sound, leaving audiences captivated and inspired.

[ENG] This is a project led and organized by , with funding from the European Union through the LIVEMX call for proposals. Its aim is to strength the networks of improvised music in Europe and support free improvisation artists in exporting their music. 🌍

🗓️ 12 NOV. Participate in the CreaSession: Led by saxophonist Liba Villavecchia, this is a fantastic opportunity to showcase your skills improvising with other musicians.
Selected artists will participate in concerts and creation sessions in Vienna, Barcelona, and Gothenburg in 2024-2025.
