👉Today's post is dedicated to this diverse group of plants called Silk Floss Tree!
Silk Floss Tree is a species of deciduous tree that is native to the tropical and subtropical forests of South America, in the north-east region of Argentina, Eastern Bolivia, Paraguay, and Uruguay.🌳
➡️Fact 1: The silk floss tree takes its name from the green pods it produces. When these seed pods dry they turn brown and split open, inside are fluffy fiber puffs that look like super-sized cotton balls. These seed pods are used to make paper and as stuffing for pillows and life jackets.
➡️Fact 2: The tree's large root system can be invasive and destructive to nearby concrete such as sidewalks and foundations.
➡️Fact 3: The wood from this tree's trunk has been used to make wood pulp, paper, and even canoes, while thin strips of the bark can be woven to make ropes and the seeds pressed into vegetable oil.
➡️Fact 4: The trunk of the silk floss tree is encircled with round spiky thorns that both protect the trunk and limbs from animals and collect moisture from the air that will then drip down onto the soil below. They turn gray with age.
➡️Fact 5: Some trees may not flower until they are 20 years old!
Legend: 'Legend holds that the goddess Aravera, seeking a haven for childbirth, took shelter in a tree. There, malevolent spirits captured her, fearing her child's retribution for their wrongs. Although her son survived, Aravera remained within the tree, her essence visible in the bulge of the trunk as it matures and the annual bloom of pink flowers.'

Grevilleas are subtropical and tropical shrubs and trees that originated in Australia. This plant sports a variety of types of foliage.
GREVILLE🌳
➡️Fact 1: Grevillea robusta, a great tree species recommended for its ability to conserve the environment and fight climate change!
➡️Fact 2: The tree can be referred to as spider flower, silky oak, toothbrush plant, silver oak, southern silky oak, or Australian silver oak
➡️Fact 3: There are over 360 species of Grevillea robusta found in different parts of the world.🌎
➡️Fact 4: This evergreen tree can contain either sweet nectar that humans can drink, or it can have poisonous nectar that contains a chemical called cyanide, which is also found in poisonous cassava. ☠️
➡️Fact 5: This plant can grow to be as tall as 50 cm to 30 meters in height and 80 cm in diameter in its natural range and erect posture.
Leaves grow to 10–34 cm long and 9–15 cm wide.

This showy tree can be found all over this area of Spain.
THE ORCHID TREE/ KACHNAR🌴
➡️Fact 1: Kachnar is a local name in the Indian subcontinent for the edible buds collected from the tree although it is also known as Orchid trees despite the fact that these trees don't bear orchids.
➡️Fact 2: Native to China through Southeast Asia to the Indian subcontinent.
➡️Fact 3: Orchid trees typically reach heights of 20 to 40 feet and can be almost as wide as they are tall.
➡️Fact 4: The flower can be found on the flag of Hong Kongs and it is illustrated in white as a symbol of peace and harmony.
➡️Fact 5: it is widely used as an ingredient in many subcontinent recipes. Kachnar buds are also eaten as a stir-fried vegetable. It shows a good antioxidant and anticancer activity.

This orange beautiful orange plant can be found all over this area of Spain as either a hedge or bush form.
CAPE HONEYSUCKLE🌿
➡️Fact 1: This plant is called Tecomaria capensis and can grow to be 2-3 m high and spread more than 2.5 m. It is an erratic flowerer and it often flowers all year round.
➡️Fact 2: This plant species comes from the Cape of Good Hope in Africa but it is also native to Africa (Mozambique, South Africa, Swaziland)
➡️Fact 3: This species attracts and is pollinated by nectar-feeding birds, especially sunbirds. The flowers are also visited by honeybees and butterflies.
➡️Fact 4: In Southafrica the bark of the Cape Honeysuckle is used as medicine to relieve pain and to treat sleeplessness, bronchitis, fevers, and dysentery. They treat bleeding gums by rubbing dried powdered bark on their teeth. The leaves are used to treat diarrhea and gastroenteritis.
➡️Fact 5: Although the names might suggest this flower smells sweet. It does NOT have a scent.

The Bottlebrush🌺
➡️Fact 1: The scientific name is Melaleuca citrina, also known as Callistemon citrinus.
It gets its name BOTTLEBRUSH from the brush-like leaves and rounded bottlebrush shrubs that grow on the tree.
➡️Fact 2: These leaves are great for cleaning bottles and other objects, which is why the Bottle Brush tree is often used to clean up beaches.
➡️Fact 3: Bottlebrush trees can survive for up to 50 years, but most only make it to 40.
➡️Fact 4: The flowers are edible, so you can eat them fresh or use them in recipes such as jellies, jams, and syrups. The leaves can be made into tea for a refreshing drink. The bark is used to make a medicinal tea that is said to help with respiratory problems.
➡️Fact 5: The bottlebrush plant attracts hummingbirds and butterflies.

➡️Fact 2: Every part of this tree/shrub is toxic and poisonous if ingested. It contains toxic compounds, chemically known as alkaloids. ☠️❗
➡️Fact 3: It is part of the Solanaceae family, which means it is related to tomatoes, potatoes, peppers, and tobacco.
➡️Fact 4: Parts of angel trumpet can be used to induce euphoria and strong hallucinogenic effects.. 💭
➡️Fact 5: It is native to Mexico and other parts of Latin America, but you can find it growing throughout India as well.

THE WISTERIA🌺
➡️Fact 1: It is part of the legume family (such as peas, beans, lentils, and clover!)
➡️Fact 2: Two of the most popular Wisteria can be identified by how they climb!
1) If it twines its stems clockwise, it’s probably a Japanese Wisteria.
2) If it twines counterclockwise, it's a Chinese Wisteria.
➡️Fact 3: There are ten species of Wisteria and they are native to China, Korea, Japan, and the Eastern United States.
➡️Fact 4: It is a perennial plant that can survive from 50 to 100 years or even longer. The oldest known wisteria is 1200 years old and resides in Japan.
➡️Fact 5: All parts of the plant contain a saponin called wisterin, which is toxic if ingested, and may cause dizziness, confusion, speech problems, nausea, vomiting, stomach pains, diarrhea and collapse.

THE BOUGAINVILLEA🌸
➡️Fact 1: They are members of the Nyctaginaceae family, which includes the four o'clock plants.
➡️Fact 2: They are native to South America, they can be found in Brazil to Peru, and from southern Argentina to southern Brazil.
➡️Fact 3: It was first introduced into europe from Brazil in 1766 by French naturalist, Dr Philibert Commerson, who named the plant after his friend, Admiral Louis-Antoine de Bougainville, who was sailing round the world on a voyage of discovery on behalf of the French Government.
➡️Fact 4: They can be used to make a tea that is said to have medicinal properties and they are also said to be a good source of vitamins A and C.
➡️Fact 5: There are more than 250 varieties of bougainvillea in various colors from: pink, purple, orange, yellow and white, with magenta being the most common color.
