We’re opening 2024 with a pandemonium! (Very cool word – look it up.) Komediakupla: Stand Up in English 11.1.2024 is headlined by two guys from elsewhere that have since deeply established themselves in the Finnish comedy scene. But who are these shady individuals who insist on hurting your sides with laughter?
Jamie MacDonald is a Canadian-Finnish q***r transgender nuisance who has been performing on Finnish stages since 2004. He started out in theatre, veering off into performance art, and finally landing with a wet thud in stand-up. His friendly but sharp-witted comedy balances the mundane and absurd with a stubborn insistence on talking about social issues. Hey, if people didn’t insist on having issues, he wouldn’t need to!
Jamie has co-created several community-driven projects, including Feminist Comedy Night, the Thalia award-winning drag, burlesque and comedy show “Punch Up! – Resistance and Glitter”.
Our master of ceremonies for the night, Ray Zambino, is a comedian from Scotland. He has the magical ability to be understandable whilst still speaking in a Scottish accent. Ray moved to Finland for the boring cliche of love. Once here, however, he loved it. Ray’s comedy involves silly one liners, the cultural observations of a stranger in a strange land and the occasional absurd idea. Ray has previously written for MTV, Yle and performed on Nelonen Stand Up. He has worked internationally for the BBC and performed all over Finland and the UK.
Joining Jamie and Ray will be a whole bunch of friends. But who exactly are these folk of mysterious origins whose names you can already see listed on the event page? Stay tuned for a dossier! (Oh boy, another great word you may have just learned.)
