Musing around with (l-r), Sue , Deanna , Sarah and Jacqui .

We had - group consensus - the best meal of our entire trip at my friends restaurant .saint.hubert

It is a must-visit when in the Vaucluse and owners Lise and Eric are my heroes, championing the very best of local producers and supporting their community in so many ways.

We were having so much fun that I didn’t get to share ALL the photos from our very first French Muse since the - you know what - forced us to take an almighty pause.

As anyway who has come on a French Muse in 2019 knows, the experience simply wouldn’t be the same without my beloved friend Jacqui Mair , who is a talented artist, dear friend to all, chief comedian, best croissant maker in the morning, queen of zee zhuzh, and overall joy-giver extraordinaire.

Jacqui hosted a fab collage workshop leading our small group to create their own paper jug inspired by our personal menagerie of 18th, 19th and 21st century jugs.... as well as collage birds which led to us saying ‘just put a bird on it’ for the remainder of the trip.

Thank you Jacqui ♥️
You are loved!

A beautiful box of antique silk flowers in my friend Regine’s home.

Regine was one of the very first antique textile dealers that I met when I moved to France, perhaps ten years ago. I would look for her face in crowded town-hall vide greniers as I was always guaranteed to find treasures at her stand.
She would take the time to open up her universe in her matter of fact way, handing me pieces of fabric to examine closely, drawing my attention to hand stitching, or imperfect block printing, sharing her immeasurable knowledge and giving me the tools to identify and date and fall in love.

She opened up her home to the French Muse a few years ago which is such an honour, to be able to source directly in her home (and not only at markets) but also to have the chance to experience up close how she has created her life, and the beloved objects and textiles she surrounds herself with, it’s so inspiring.

Look at Sarah’s happy face. This was very much a crowd-pleasing finale to our last day of the September French Muse....learning to create our own bespoke gin with the very charming and talented mixologist Theo of .

Sarah aptly named her concoction, Muse Booze and we’ll have to wait a month to pop the cork and taste our creations but it will be worth the wait!

We made it just as the sun set over the Luberon valley for another unforgettable French Muse meal at one of my favourite restaurants. This was my first experience eating inside, with sheepskin rugs as cushions and a roaring fire to ward off the cold.

Sunday brocante is always punctuated with a sprinkling of black truffle, a delicious reward consumed best outside in the crisp autumnal sunshine whilst eavesdropping on other tables and trying to spy what treasures our neighbours couldn’t resist taking home.

Literally the best lemon tart I’ve ever tasted, made by artist friend whose creative talents expand far beyond her beautiful sculptural work and into her kitchen, where she creates serene, generous meals that embrace the very best of local, organic product and envelop our senses so that every mouthful transports us to the perfumed Provencal garrigue, warmed by the sun.

Marie decorated her lemon tart with kiwi, and foraged leaves from calament Nepeta, perille de Nankin (or shizo), amarantes, rocket and wild fennel flowers 🌸

Preparing for a French Muse trip almost always entails exploring off the beaten track villages, and opening doors to creative spaces. Always seeking out a feeling and an energy that will match that of my guests. I can’t wait to share where we’ll be exploring this week with Jacqui, Sarah, Deanna and Sue!

In two days I’ll welcome my very first French Muse since the pandemic closed the skies.

I pick up my dear friend Jacqui at the airport tonight. I’ve missed her so much, our easy friendship and all the laughter and joy she brings to our trips.

Our trio of returning muses have trusted me for a third time to lead them through my favourite parts of Provence.

I’m both nervous and excited to start creating travel experiences again, so much has changed, and yet I feel it is perhaps more necessary than ever to have moments where we step outside routine and travel, connect and meet others, experience art and culture in a deeper, more meaningful way.

I’ll be sharing lots here of the next few days and very very soon announcing dates for 2023.

Here’s to musing!
