S&B travelled from New York to say ‘I Do’ in France at their dream venue Chateau La Durantie

When a movie producer and director get married you just know that their wedding will have every detail impeccably delivered. Their fabulous planner Julia curated every detail with utter perfection.

S&B chose to have their ceremony infront of the lavender walk with the Chateau facade as the perfect backdrop to their exchange of vows and rings.

It was an absolute joy to discover S&B’s love story, a love that took each other by surprise but a love that each knew they needed. And what a happy and joyous married life they have ahead of them!

Working with E&R to create their wedding ceremony at No. 3 the Chateau, Cognac was simply magnificent.

Getting to know E&R meant getting to know how they first met at a skydiving centre where one was an instructor and one was a trainee…getting to discover the most beautifully romantic proposal at Balmoral Castle…and getting to know how their love forms an umbrella under which they feel safe and cherished.

We celebrated their love with an exchange of vows and rings in front of the Chateau facade, a poignant moment as their guests looked on, including the owners of the Chateau - the Grooms father. Officiating a family ceremony for the owners of a venue is a profound honour.

A big shout out to possibly the best ring bearer of my 2024 season, the incredibly well behaved Black Lab and best bud - Bear.

Looking back at the fabulous photos of H & C’s magical wedding at Château Destinée on a sunny Saturday in May.

It was a beautiful chateau wedding ceremony in france full of love and lots of emotion! The moment the groom saw his bride at the top of the aisle, the flood gates of tears and love flowed.

My role as a celebrant in France is not just to deliver the ceremony, but to ensure the Bride and Groom are relaxed on the day. Knowing H was susceptible to emotion, lots of comforting words took place between us, as he eagerly awaited the arrival of his bride.

H&C sealed their vows and letters of love from their parents in a wine ceremony box which they will open in the future to remind them of the commitment they made to each other on their glorious day.

A busy start to the season has meant lots of traveling around the south west of France to deliver wedding ceremonies in the Pyrenees, Bordeaux, Dordogne, Cognac and east to Cahors.

We've been blighted by unseasonably wet weather for May which meant enacting 'Plan B' twice. Thankfully both times at venues which have great alternatives and incredible suppliers who united together to ensure no magic was lost for the couple on the day!

As I await the professional photographs, I thought I'd share my pics of the ceremony spaces where these delightful couples got married in the marvellous month of May!

"Marriage, the union of two individuals, is an ancient rite of passage and today, as we gather in these historic grounds under this ancient tree, let us acknowledge our place in history as we connect to the past and look toward to the future"

My 2024 wedding season began today with a really special ceremony for M&F at Chateau de Siradan, nestled magically in the foothills of the Pyrenees.

A marriage ceremony uniting two individuals but also two countries, America and France. We had a joyous and emotional ceremony under the canopy of an incredibly atmospheric cedar tree in the chateau park.

Before the bride and groom made their vows their guests were all invited to 'warm the rings' - a part of the ceremony which sees the rings passed around the guests, each holding them for a moment and imbuing in them their love and positive thoughts for a long and strong marriage.

The ceremony today was tailor made for M& F and so it was joyous, full of laughter and yet had the solemnity a wedding ceremony requires.

A moment of pause….captured beautifully by Mark Awardweddings at last summer’s wedding of K&P.

The one thing every couple will always say after their wedding day is “It went so quickly!”.

When planning the timeline of your big day it is so important to schedule in moments for you both to pause and take it all in!

This may be a private moment in a quiet room after the ceremony but it doesn’t have to take you away from the action....

Perhaps a secret word you can say to each other at key times during your day to remind each other to be present and soak in the joy of the moment and the fruits of your hard work planning.
A squeeze of each others hand and knowing look during the post ceremony drinks, a moment together watching your loved ones dancing, a pause to soak in the view of your guests dining at your wedding day...

Reminding yourself to pause, for a few seconds, at key points throughout your day will log it in your memory and allow you to drink in the moment, slowing down the speed with which your wedding day passes.

The majority of a celebrant’s work is carried out before the wedding day which is why my 2024 season is now in full swing!

Over the past few months I’ve been holding lots of video calls with this year’s couples. We’ve been building our relationship as I discover their love story and we’ve been chatting in detail about their wedding ceremony. Our calls have been filled with lots of laughter and giddy excitement as their big day edges closer.

Having learnt so much about their backstory and their wishes for their ceremony, I am now busy writing their ceremonies and starting to send drafts for them to read through.

What a season 2024 is looking to be! So many exciting elements have been chosen by my couples. We’ll have some surprise ring bearers, explosive confetti corridors, secret flash mobs, an array of symbolic rituals and so much more…whilst maintaining the gravitas that befits a wedding ceremony....I can’t wait!

Pictured are just a few of the simply stunning venues I will be delivering ceremonies at this year (one of which the you may recognise from the TV show Chateau DIY).

Roll on the 2024 Summer of Love!

There is so much to say and celebrate about this snippet of video of The Pogues singer Shane MacGowan's Funeral today.
Funerals are horrible. They are Horrible. Death is horrible. The whole lot of it is the worst part of being alive.
Yet.
It's inevitable.
So how do we face it, how do we cope with it?
Could we, possibly, embrace it?

The reason I wanted to share this video is what we see here. His family dancing, around his coffin, at his funeral, in celebration. Dancing to his, possibly, greatest hit.
Celebrating him.
How wonderful!

We don't have to sit down during our funeral services.
We don't have to durge out a hymn.
We don't have to wear black.
We don't have to be 'shocked' that they are dancing by the coffin.
We don't have to be afraid of touching the coffin to say our final, personal, private, farewell.
We don't have to do what the funeral directors tell us WILL happen.
We don't have to do what our celebrant/vicar/imam/rabbi/ or any other ceremony leader tells us WILL happen!

We simply have to do what we want to do, to honour and celebrate the life of the person we are saying goodbye to. And we can do that how we wish.

There are no rules for a funeral service.

If you are faced with having to arrange a funeral service, please know that you must not be afraid to break the rules/societal expectations.

It was a joy to marry M&F today at the stunningly secluded Lalande Laborie nestled in the hills of the Dordogne. We were not beaten by the 37 degree sun, instead we persevered and held a beautiful wedding ceremony full of love and laughter on the raised terrace.
A celebrating two cultures in front of friends and family. M&F chose to include a cup ceremony further deepening their union as they both drank from the deeply symbolic loving cup.

Their Love Story is one that proves love can overcome any obstacle and that love will not be tamed. and it is something that should be celebrated, as we did today. ❤️

Thank you M&F for giving me the honour of officiating your wedding ceremony 🥰

Being an Independent Celebrant is a true honour and a privilege. My work is in my title - I am here to celebrate as I officiate life’s key moments.

The circle of life means we are called to support and officiate at all of life’s moments.

In this glorious summer wedding season in France, life still rotates and my work as a celebrant rotates too. This week I had the profound honour of supporting a family through the worst of times as we celebrated a life so broad, so sensational, so magnificent and so fulfilled.

We surrounded B with her beloved sunflowers and read out words written by Hunter S Thompson which, she thought, and I think, we should all live by…Live life, love life, love each other!

“Life should not be a journey to the grave with the intention of arriving safely in an attractive and well preserved body, but rather to skid in sideways, chocolate in one hand, wine in the other, body thoroughly used up, totally worn out and screaming Woo Hoo! What a ride" Hunter S Thompson

The job of a good celebrant (amongst many other things(!)) is to ensure couples are at ease in the lead up to their wedding day AND during the ceremony itself. They should be comfortable and confident that their ceremony will be delivered with perfection. So it was lovely to receive these words from the wonderful K&P following their .

These are the kind of words that make my heart swell and my cheeks blush.

Listening to their wishes for their ceremony I crafted a bespoke script including time for a number of readings by family members, a symbolic ritual and the traditional exchange of rings and vows. This was their wedding ceremony created to their wishes and their wants.

Thank you K&P for your lovely words! You have such a magical love filled marriage ahead of you!

A wonderful wedding on the outskirts of last weekend🥰
This past month has seen some incredible thunderstorms here in the south of France but they finally gave way and it was a glorious 30 degrees for the wedding of Peter & Katie at the wonderful Château de Launac A real castle of a Chateau!

The newly installed parasols (Merci Valerie!😊) shaded us all during the ceremony where we witnessed an exchange of vows and rings alongside a unity candle ceremony symbolising the creation, by marriage, of a new love filled family.

It is always a delight to work with other wedding professionals who just allow things to flow with ease, humour and happiness. This wedding team were a dream:

What a wonderful wedding ceremony for Olly and Kyle yesterday at the magnificent Chateau Gassies overlooking Bordeaux. 🥂

The weather was glorious and the shaded ceremony space created an intimate atmosphere whilst protecting us from the 30 degree sun!

What fun we had in a joyous ceremony full of laughter as they declared their love for each other infront of friends and family with an exchange of rings, vows and a handfasting ceremony.

It was such a privilege to create and conduct such a personal ceremony for them both

Congratulations Olly & Kyle! ❤️🥂🥂
