🔎According to Gender Diversity Barometer of Deloitte Africa, 69% companies have less than 25% Women Board Representativity. ♀️

There is still not good enough: female representation at board level in Africa. There is indeed a long way to go to reach parity at board level in Africa and to create the much-needed financial impact of gender-balanced boards.

Our executive training program is designed to boost C-suite women executives board potential. In keeping with WFC vision and mission, Get African Women On Board is our first certified executive training program co-designed with our partner KPMG and launched in September 2019.

📢This year, the number of women running businesses on the Fortune 500 hit an all-time record: 41. But that's not all. For the first time two Black women are running Fortune 500 businesses: Roz Brewer of No. 16 Walgreens Boots Alliance and Thasunda Brown Duckett of No. 79 TIAA)

These milestones together amount to an exceptional year for the leadership of the Fortune 500, which ranks America's largest companies. This list has long been seen as a microcosm of U.S. business at large.

For that reason, the number of female chief executives on the ranking is a closely watched statistic among those who track gender diversity in boardrooms and C-suites across the country.

Congratulations to all these women! 👏🏾

Recruitment Gender Diversity👩🏾‍💼♀️

Encouragingly, 64% of the companies surveyed reported a nearly 50:50 male/female applicant ratio between 2019 and 2020, attesting to a gender-balanced applicant pool. The survey reveals, however, that after the recruitment process, the trend reverses, as companies do not reach this level of gender parity in their workforce. More than three-fourths of businesses recruit mostly men, while 30% have a majority female staff.

[Reading of the day 📚✏️]: Unruly! African Women Who Were Ahead of Their Times

"What these women from different backgrounds have in common is their love for the continent. All of them dreamed of a united Africa and took advantage of the slightest opportunity to try to give it substance, convinced that they would only succeed if they joined forces."

Géraldine Faladé Touadé, a former journalist, paid tribute to several African women (Madeleine Ly, Marie Madoé Sivomey, Jeanne Martin Cissé, Sita Bella...) who were ahead of their time made their mark in a fiercely male-dominated society, in an essay published by Présence Africaine entitled "Turbulentes! Des Africaines en Avance sur Leur Temps" (Unruly! African Women Who Were Ahead of Their Times).

She revives the memory of these pioneers who have been unjustly forgotten by history for far too long.

Africa’s history is filled with ‘unruly’ women who were seen as a threat by colonial and post-colonial authorities due to their campaigning and pushing for progress.

Management Team Diversity 👩🏾‍💼♀️

There is a lack of at the leadership level. For a majority of the companies questionned, women are underrepresented in top executive positions. This trend is less marked at the level, where two in five companies have a balanced representation, and only 3% of the nearly 500 companies surveyed reported having no managers in their workforce.

📢 Get African Women on Board: take your seat at the board table!

“Get African Women on Board”, our first female executive training programme, co-developed with our partner KPMG, launched in September 2019 with the ambition of helping women C-suite executives acquire the tools they need to get a seat in Africa’s top corporate boardrooms.

Our first graduating class, made up of four women leaders: Aude Apetey, Bola Bamidele, Cynthia Gnassingbe-Essonam and Caroline Kamaitha received their diplomas in early April 2021 and we’d like to take this time to congratulate them! 👏🏾 🎓
A new class will be formed in the weeks ahead.
