Six films chosen for prestigious awards at OLY House Film Festival 🎬

Six worthy winners have been announced for the first ever OLY House Film Festival which was held at OLY House Paris 2024 @ Caisse d’Epargne and online at e-OLY House. The films were either made by Olympians or are about the Olympic Movement and the spirit that guides all Olympians.

🎬 The Sirens of Ukraine: Twin Ukrainian sisters Maryna and Vladyslava Aleksiiva fled their apartment under bombings, taking their Tokyo 2020 Olympic medals with them, and then returned to train at home under duress trying to qualify to compete in the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

OLY House FILM FESTIVAL | DAY 11

🎬 Fighting for Life:
The documentary film Fighting for Life gives a unique look inside the South-African prison Drakenstein Correctional Center and the impressive work of Dutch boxing coach Sharita van der Hulst in the rehabilitation program for prisoners that are serving heavy sentences. The film shows Sharita at work during a one week coaching course that she provides to selected prisoners who want to become a boxing coach themselves.

🎬 The Duel We Missed: The Duel We Missed is a documentary about the dramatic events of the Olympics in the 1970s and 1980s. The documentary is based on the stories of swimmers who participated in the Olympic competitions of that period. (John Naber, Brian Goodell, Rowdy Gaines, Vladimir Salnikov, and Mark Schubert - сoach.) The athletes’ stories are replete with personal difficulties that arose on the way to victories, how international politics created insurmountable obstacles in realizing the Olympic dream, and how hard work and perseverance helped athletes achieve Olympic victories.

🎬 A Second Family: In Goma, DR Congo, Amina’s life changed when she was placed in a school for deaf children despite being able to hear, leading her to learn sign language and later coach Goma’s first basketball team of deaf players.

🎬 Phoenix: Phoenix, who lost both legs in a childhood car accident and faced pain from prosthetics and social stigma, found new hope and self-expression through new Olympic sport breaking as he discovered his hands could support his body and his dreams.

🎬The Wall: This fairy tale documentary chronicles Büşra Ün, Turkey’s first female Olympic tennis player, highlighting her life, her sacrifices, and her journey to elite sport.

🎬 Nefta Football Club: In southern Tunisia, two football fan brothers discover a donkey lost in the desert near the Algerian border, peculiarly wearing headphones.
