This summer was probably the most difficult one I have ever experienced, and I have gone through some rough times. For those of you who know, you know and I don’t want to get into the details. However, I will say that there are angels in this world who, despite not knowing me, cared for me unconditionally during an incredibly challenging situation. This house in Arona, Italy, and the surrounding countryside saved my mental health. The Italian-Canadian couple has become part of my family, and I have become part of theirs. I am so grateful to them and to everyone who helped me along the way.

My point in sharing this message:

The universe will call you one day to truly be there for someone you may not know. When that calling comes, answer it.

Géraldine Tobé set fire to her canvases. As a young artist who had graduated from the Beaux-Arts in Kinshasa, painting was no longer appealing to her. How could she produce paintings without oils or acrylics and break away from the prevailing academicism? A new path appeared to her from the smoke that consumed her works. Destruction led to reconstruction. Since then, Tobé has been ‘painting’ with smoke. Airy shapes, with controlled contours and precise details, emerge from the flame of her oil lamp and settle on the white canvas, freeing the demons of her past.

At the heart of the problem lies consumerism, underscoring the need to reduce both production and consumption. The principle that less is more holds true; possessing more stuff does not equate to happiness.

Attending the ChangeNOW salon in Paris left me deeply inspired. It provided a fantastic platform to explore how companies are innovating to address environmental challenges. From utilizing seaweed to combat drought and rejuvenating depleted soil, to transforming collected ocean and river plastic into elegantly designed furniture, the scope of innovation was truly impressive. This continual growth in creative solutions prompts an important question: are we each doing our part in this vital movement?
