This is the Lilac-breasted roller bird... and definitely, the most colourful, vibrant-feathers bird I have ever encountered, and photographed in Namibia!
At first, driving along the endless roads between lodges, we would spot one of two of the lesser colourful species, the Purple roller bird, and always be on the lookout for the more prized one.
Finally, we moved to a different area closer to Etosha and managed to spot quite a few around the waterholes: and there was no stopping trying to get the best shots we could of this amazing-looking specimen :-)
Note: since you cannot get out of the car in the parks, all we could do was shoot from our passenger car seats, and even with engine stops, not having space for a tripod, and not finding the sandbag very convenient, I found out that the motion stabilization of the SONY system was truly fantastic: this shot has literarily not blur whatsoever and was sharp straight out o the RAW format!
Again, the crisp air and pure light in Namibia were just out of this world...
