likes wine, soul records & long walks on the beach. A DJ with a love for deep dancefloor jams, miche has fast become one of London’s most exciting young selectors. At just 29 years old, he has already released his own compilation on Brighton-based Mr Bongo Records, been lead programmer for London audiophile venue Spiritland and co-founded reissue 7”s label Discs of Fun & Love. Holding down a show
on Worldwide FM in 2022, he DJs regularly across the UK and Europe, specialising in long and expansive sets that showcase his passion for modern soul, private press disco, Brazilian MPB rarities, jazz dance and deep house. Born and raised in Bournemouth in the south of England, miche’s way into music was as diverse as the sets he has become known for. Aged 14, he began his education in soulful dance music via a borrowed hard drive packed with Kerri Chandler, Atjazz and Masters At Work tunes, cutting his teeth on a pair of turntables in his bedroom. Spending his teenage years playing in post-rock bands and being mentored in music production by Phil Brown (Talk Talk) and Flood (New Order, Depeche Mode), by 22 miche had settled on a career as a DJ with dedication that has come to shape his work, driving up to London to play 7-hour sets at the Horse & Groom in Shoreditch, often sleeping the rest of the night in his car outside the venue. From there on out, miche was on his way. First touted by Paul “Trouble” Anderson as one to watch, he has since played alongside digging royalty such as Patrick Forge, Rainer Trüby and Luke Una, flying the flag for a new generation of record-hungry selectors. But rather than just step into the footsteps of others, miche has taken care to hone his own intimate sound – one that is defined as much by his attitude to music as any single genre. While he may be drawn to the obscure, he doesn’t dig deep for the sake of it. Inspired by the Louis Armstrong quote, "There are two kinds of music, the good, and the bad. I play the good kind," all that really matters is that the groove slaps, the vibe is right, and the love is there. It’s this approach which defines the curation of “With Love”, his new 16-track compilation of “music with soul from across the world”, and the first in a series he is helming for Mr Bongo Records. Determined to do it right, miche tracked down the artists whose music he fell in love with, building the kind of personal relationships that define all the best reissue projects. As he says: “I really value being able to connect directly with the artists and pay them a royalty on the music they have usually given up on. The reason why these records are so expensive or hard to find is mostly they were small pressings that "failed" on release. I love being able to re-share these lost treasures on dancefloors across the world with people who can now enjoy the music.”
Released in September 2022, volume one of “With Love” was named compilation of the week by Lauren Laverne on BBC 6 Music, and received further BBC radio support from Jamie Cullum, Craig Charles and Cerys Matthews, as well as a host of iconic DJs including Jeremy Underground and Antal. Connecting artists past, present and future, miche spent the previous 3-and-a-half years as lead programmer for London’s Spiritland venues in Kings Cross and the Royal Festival Hall. Responsible for booking the likes of Danny Krivit, Robert Owens, Francois K, Atjazz, Jimpster, Patrick Forge, Ross Allen and Mafalda, he helped transform the audiophile bar into a destination for the world’s most respected DJs. Aside from his work for Mr Bongo, miche also co-runs Discs of Fun and Love with fellow DJ Frederika, primarily reissuing 7”s that chime with the spirit inherent to the label’s name. He also works with the esteemed London-based label BBE, and music distributor Prime Direct. A DJ and selector who is as comfortable curating line-ups as headlining them, miche is set to be a fixture on the festival circuit in 2023 and beyond.
