Anyone any good at jigsaws?

Getting a phone call from the delivery company first thing to say their forklift truck had broken down wasn’t a good start to the day, but the workshop has arrived safe and sound.

I was out of the way at work, but massive thanks to the delivery drivers, Mr Gin Blossoms and my dad for hand balling all 3/4 of a ton of workshop off the lorry.

Exciting day tomorrow, my new workshop is getting delivered! A little bit apprehensive as my house isn’t the easiest to deliver to, but fingers crossed all goes well.

Some great news reaching us florists today. The beautiful cappuccino rose has just been made even better. Growers have now developed a scented variety that smells just like freshly ground coffee beans.

Can’t wait to get my hands on them! ☕️

🌸 It’s Mother’s Day!

The shop is open today until 2pm with a selection of various bouquets and arrangements just ready to pick up and take away. If you want to treat your mum to some nice flowers just pop on by.

🌸Mother’s Day 2025🌸

It’s my last Mother’s Day in the shop and I am doing my absolute best to fit as many of you in as I possibly can, but I know my limits.

🌷Fully Booked🌷
I am now fully booked for Saturday and Sunday, for both deliveries and collections. There is very limited space available for delivery or collection tomorrow, (Friday 28th) but these slots are likely to go quickly.

Once I have made sure all orders that have been placed have been fulfilled I will start work on creating some florist choice items that will be available to collect from the shop on Sunday only. The shop will be open 9.30am until 2pm. These can’t be ordered and will be sold on a first come first served basis. Yes, it’s a bit of a gamble if you want to wait until then, but pre-orders are my top priority.

🌻Deliveries🌻

Thanks to the wonderful support of my customers, there is a high volume of orders being delivered over the weekend. Whilst we are doing our best, I cannot guarantee any delivery times (have you seen the number of roadworks in Airdrie just now?) but all orders will be delivered by 5pm each day.

💐Collections💐

If you have ordered flowers for collection can I please ask you to collect your flowers as close to the time you stated as possible. If you come too early I can’t guarantee your order will be ready and space in the shop is limited so collecting your flowers at the time stated helps keep the shop running smoothly.

I thought I’d be writing this post with a heavy heart, but instead I’m writing it full of excitement and passion.

Gin Blossoms is moving!
On Saturday 19th April, I’ll be closing the door to 8 Alexander Street for the final time and moving to my own custom built workshop at home.

Of course, there will be some teeny tiny changes to how the business operates when the move happens, and I’ll post about these in the coming weeks, but if you can’t wait to find out you can read my blog for more information.

The past five years in the shop has been amazing and I have met so many lovely people - customers that have essentially become friends. I’d love it if you’d continue this journey with me as my business evolves and moves on to the next chapter.

Let me tell you a wee story for International Women’s Day.

This morning I get a call from someone who has gained my admiration and respect for what she once did as a job. Last night she sadly lost her Nanni, a woman she also looked up to and admired. Her funeral was taking place today at 1pm and I was asked if I could provide a certain flower arrangement for the funeral.

Unfortunately I wasn’t able to help as I didn’t have the items or the flowers required to make the item. I did offer other solutions but I knew deep down she wanted this particular arrangement.

So I phoned a fellow florist, one who is always there for me and has helped me out on many occasion, to see if she could help. She could, so I passed this customer on to her and she’s managed to deliver exactly what was wanted in time.

If this story doesn’t encapsulate what International Women’s Day is all about then I don’t know what does.

Watching all the little kids going to school all dressed up today I thought to myself, “Wow, Halloween has come early!” It was then I realised it was World Book Day.

I wish we had had World Book Day when I was at school, my head was never out of a book. My prized possession when I was younger was a copy of George’s Marvellous Medicine that I won at prize giving, I read that so many times it became quite the battered and tatty book. Ah simpler times….

Anyway, enough reminiscing, if you’ve dressed your wee one up today for WBD tell me what they’ve dressed up as in the comments, or better yet post a picture and I’ll see if I can work out the book!

This time last year I was knee deep in Mother’s Day prep when the calendars aligned against florists and made the busiest day of the year 3 weeks after Valentine’s Day.

However, I don’t think the 6 weeks break in between this year has been good for me because here we are on the 5th March and I’m only just putting the finishing touches to this years collection. For those of you asking, all going well it will be live on the website by the end of the week.

Oh and while we florists might have had 6 weeks to recover from the chaos that is Valentine’s Day this year, we’ve had an hour taken off us when the clocks go forward on Mother’s Day, Sunday 30th March.

Who needs sleep anyway 🤷‍♀️
