As part of the Goose Green Summer Music event this weekend there will be a very special performance from ‘The Guestlist’ a new indie/rock band from Altrincham. The band was formed in 2021 by a group of students from Altrincham Grammar School for Boys who had previously played in the school’s award-winning Swing Band.

At 2pm on Sunday they will be performing their first release "161", which is a song that tells part of the story of Altrincham’s Chapel Street, the Bravest Little Street in England. During the First World War, from the 60 terraced houses on the street, 161 men and boys volunteered for the army, and 29 of them never returned home. Lead singer, Cai Alty, walks past the Chapel Street plaque every day on his way to school and felt inspired to write the song, a story of family, community, memory, and loss.

Cai explained, "Writing 161 made me appreciate the sacrifice that the boys before me had made so that I could be here, and I’m proud to be from Altrincham."

The final weekend of Goose Green Summer Music takes place over the August bank holiday weekend (Sat 28th & Sun 29th Aug 2-8pm). The programme, throughout August, has featured unsigned artists, talented soloists and bands, and this weekend’s line-up includes Jess Kemp, The Panamas, Rosellas and Hollows.

Mandy White, Altrincham’s BID Manager, “We look forward to welcoming many visitors to Altrincham this weekend. Come and listen to the incredible live music and enjoy the wonderful hospitality the town’s awesome cafes, bars and restaurants provide.’’

SUMMER MUSIC IN GOOSE GREEN! 🎶 🎸
The BID is pleased to announce that Summer Music will take place every weekend in August in Goose Green, Altrincham (2-8pm).

The programme features unsigned artists, talented soloists and bands from The Music Place and Aura Music Academy, plus Green Room & Loft Bar favourites. The line-up has been curated for the BID by Jon Belfield from Radio Alty and the Goose Green traders.

Mandy White, Altrincham’s BID Manager explained, “The Summer Music programme will take place this year as an alternative to Goose Green Festival. We are pleased to be able to bring together this programme of music including performers who have played in previous years plus local artists from the town’s music schools.

“We hope that in 2022 we will be able to bring back the festival, which has a strong reputation. In the meantime, we’d like to encourage the community and visitors to come and enjoy Goose Green and all it has to offer!”

Alongside the music there will be a children’s and adult art competition run by the Goose Green Gallery and a raffle with a chance to win a painting of Goose Green. Proceeds from the raffle will go to Altrincham’s Counselling and Family Centre.

Jon Belfield, Radio Alty said: “I’ve loved being part of the Goose Green Festival over the years and I’m pleased to be able to support the Summer Music weekends this year, working with the traders to curate a fantastic line-up. The artists will be playing a great mix of original material and covers so there’ll be something for everyone.”
